| A Mother's Knife by horsesg As a child I loved to take my toy weapons and hunt the small animals around our place. The spear was my favorite weapon and I was given an old knife blade to use as a spear head. Due to my not so good aim I had done considerable damage to my spear head over time. Dad would always grind the blade and take the many nicks out for me. It had gotten quite small from being ground so much. I felt it would hardly penitrate a bug, let alone the game I had in mind. My mom had a marvelious paring knife that was just perfect for my needs.Having asked to borrow it an being told no. I should have left it alone. But didn`t.One morning after my folks had left for work, I took the knife and fixed it to my spear shaft, fully confident I would get the huge rabbit that was eating our garden up. Well I missed the rabbit, broke the tip off Moms knife. Sitting on the porch waiting for the folks to get home. I was just sick about what I had done. When they got home I told Mom , Dad can fix it.Fully expecting her to agree. She said no. We`ll leave it to remind you what can happen when you don`t listen to your elders. Someday I will give you that knife, so you will know I also Love you. She gave me the kife when I got Married.:) I used it for 42 years, with its point still broken. To remind me of my teachings and my Mothers Love.I passed it on to my daughter inlaw last year as she had always wanted it, along with the story of a Mothers Wisdom and love. |
