| In the year of our Lord, 2003, Gav-dolf the Grey, a wise and respected cider drinker who was renowned throughout the land for his remarkable liver of steel, was enjoying a few leisurely cans of the mystical happy apple on a serene September afternoon. Accompanied by his trusty sidekick, Gollum the Gurgler, the pair were about to embark on a cider session which would install the tradition which we now know as National Cider Day, and subsequently changed the lives of countless people throughout the globe forever. They decided to summon an EGM, or Extraordinary General Meeting, of the worldwide authority on all things cider, the Ancient Brethran of Appley Appreciation. The three remaining members of the council called upon their trusty steeds and set their course for the 17th floor of Lodge Tower, otherwise known as the sacred dwelling place Eisen-gav. From the mystical East, rode the Ginga Ninja, and from the mysterious and sometimes treachorous path from the North, rode the Brothers Hogg-wart. On this sacred day which we celebrate every year, the wily quintet formed the everlasting pact of National Cider Day. As the council were both steamin and yet wise, it is held every year on the Sunday of which the September weekend falls, ensuring that as many disciples can worship without the evil and dark forces of work the next day curtailing their merriment. |
