The Finnish final was held on February 17th at the Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki, hosted by Kati Bergman. The winning song was chosen by an "expert" jury.

Beat previously came 4th in the 1988 Finnish final. One of their backing singers was Kari Kuivalainen who represented Finland in ESC 1986. At the ESC they came equal 21st.
