"May the dawn never rise, may I fade away, may I cease to be"

The Croatian Final was held on the 6th of March at the Hotel Kvarner in Opatija, hosted by Daniela Trbovic and Ljudevit Grguric-Grga.  The winning song was chosen by the votes of 20 regional juries and a 21st jury whose votes came from the televoting public.

Zorica Kondza won the 1985 Yugoslav Final, but never got to the Eurovision as Yugoslavia decided not to participate that year. Danijela had previously represented Croatia in 1995 when she was the lead singer of the group Magazin. At the ESC, she came 5th.  Novi Fosili represented Yugoslavia in 1987.
