The Swedish Final was held on February 21st at the Cirkus in Stockholm, hosted by Janne Carlsson. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 11 regional juries.

Björn Skifs had previously represented Sweden in ESC 1978 and came 9th in the 1972 Swedish Final and 5th in 1975. At the ESC he was 10th. Sweets 'n' Chips consisted of Lasse Holm, Kikki Danielsson, Elisabeth Andreasson and Tania.
