The Portuguese Final was held on March 7th at the Teatro São Luíz in Lisbon, hosted by Ana Zanatti & Eládio Clímaco. Before the final there were 3 semi-finals - click here for details: PORTUGUESE SEMI-FINALS 1980 The winning song was chosen by the votes of 22 regional juries.

José Cid previously took part in the Portuguese Finals of 1968 (3rd), 1974 (5th) & 1978 (2nd, 5th, 6th & 7th). At the ESC he came 7th. Two members of the group Doce (Teresa Miguel and Fatima Padinha) were in the group Gemini that represented Portugal in 1978.
