"Dai-li, dai-li, dai-li, dai-li, dai-li, dai-li dou, the kite flies"
The Portuguese Final was held on February 18th at the Teatro Villaret in Lisbon, hosted by Maria José Azevado and Eládio Clímaco. The winning song was chosen by a jury consisting of 12 people, one of whom was Simone de Oliveira who had represented Portugal in 1965 and 1969.

Gemini had previously taken part in the 1977 Portuguese Final (where they sang the winning song, but weren't chosen as the winning performers). At the Eurovision they came 17th. Tonicha represented Portugal in 1971.
