The Irish final was held on March 12th at The Olympia Theatre in Dublin, hosted by Ronan Collins. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 12 members of the public.

Linda Martin had previously represented Ireland in the 1984 Eurovision. Nicola Kerr was one of the "Plus Two" that represented Ireland in 1977 with The Swarbriggs. In Lausanne, Kiev Connolly came 18th.
