"Happy man" - Cathal Dunne
The Irish Final was held on February 4th at the RTE TV Studios in Dublin, hosted by Mike Murphy. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 10 regional juries.

Cathal Dunne previously came 4th in the 1976 Irish Final, and at the Eurovision he was 5th. Tina represented Ireland in 1974 and Red Hurley did the same in 1976.
