The Irish Final was held on February 16th at the RTE TV Studios in Dublin, hosted by Brendan O'Reilly. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 10 regional juries.

Muriel Day came 7th equal at the Eurovision. Four of the other singers in the contest had sung Ireland's 4 previous entries in the Eurovision - Butch Moore in 1965, Dickie Rock in 1966, Sean Dunphy in 1967 and Pat McGeegan in 1968.
