LITERATURE

Why do we travel?

This is a beach sunset photo.

We travel to escape our reality.

Dream holiday

We expect a lot when we go on holiday. We look at pictures and dream about idyllic places. We want everything to be perfect. We try to escape our problems. Reality does not exist.

Art of Travel

In the Art of Travel, Alain de Botton explains why people travel. It is a life-changing experience, bringing happiness. We associate positive images to travels:
  • beautiful places
  • friendly people
  • great food, etc.

But the reality is often deceiving. Traveling is not an answer to personal problems. Your dream might not come true.

Images

This book explores how artists define the Art of Travel. Pictures illustrate the stories. Like an art exhibition, you look at a picture and seek more information. Reading opens to a new cultural experience. You question your own relation to pictures. What you see is what you are.

Collection

This book is a great collection of stories and anecdotes. Alain de Botton writes in a clear style. His philosophy comes from human experiences. You learn to question ideas through history. You want to learn more about people. You want to learn more about yourself.
