My Neck o' The Woods
************************************************************************

I live in the Slocan Valley, which is in the West Kootenay region (south-east corner) of British Columbia, Canada. The only buffer zone we have between us and those dreadful Yanqui-fied Albertans is the East Kootenays. *lol*

I will give more information later, but for the time being, if you are curious at all about the region I live in, and its history (which is truly fascinating!) check out the links to the left.

The first link, Scenic Pix, will take you to a page of pictures from around the area. It doesn't have a link on that page, though, (flippin' PageWizard!!!) so you'll have to use your browser's "back" button to get back to this page. From there, continue the tour.

The second one, for the Valley of the Ghosts, covers the area from New Denver/Silverton, just 5 km (3.11 m.) south of Rosebery, to Kaslo, which is ____ km (I'll look it up) to the east along Hwy 31A.

This area was known as the Valley of the Ghosts, because at one point there were a dozen or so old silver-mining ghost towns dotted along its length. Sadly, most were destroyed (burned) in the early '80s by an asshole who didn't like the fact that hippies were living in a lot of the buildings. And yes, we still have honest-to-god HIPPIES living in the area. (In the ORIGINAL sense of the word, not just as a synonym for "stoners" as the word has been corrupted to mean nowadays. Of course, there ARE a lot of stoners in the area as well, but they sure as hell ain't ALL hippies!)

Anyway, this link gives a GREAT overview of the area, with lots of tourist info, links to other sites, history, and some fantastic pix. My buddy Dave Good set the site up, and did a WONDERFUL job! (Pats on the back, Dave!)
This is the view, looking south down Slocan Lake, as seen from the cliffs above my home in Rosebery. Slocan Lake is so deep that in places they can't locate the bottom even using sonar!
