LAX Meeting minutes January 2, 2008 Kelly Malone’s residence
In Attendance: T. Osborn, R. Strickland, K. Malone, B. Laudig, E. Hofmann, D. Landeen
Count Me In online registration is
operative and Kelly tested it out successfully. RS sent the URL to KM & EH.
It will be posted on the team web page and we can send it out by email.
Registration fee for Count Me In is $220 (not sure whether that includes credit
card charge of ~$7). NH athletic fee is on top of that. EH will email the Yahoo
group with the URL saying that registration is now open & don’t need to
wait for January 30.
All Hale paperwork must be
submitted by February 15 (before winter break). We will put packets together
for the organizational meeting Wednesday January 30 & plan to demonstrate
registration. We will have to have a separate deposit check when uniforms are
issued before first game.
BL has a contact (Commonwealth) who
can get team sweat suits for $41. Have a signup at January 30 meeting. New Pro
Cascade helmets available for $100.
Need to heavily publicize the
meeting for good turnout. Show season highlight DVD at different mentorships
with players in groups of two? Bobby ask players. Do they have DVD players in
the room? How to get permission to present in mentorships? Have a handout to go
along with presentation. Similar promotion at U Prep with Ian? KM send
announcement to Yahoo email group & get it into Hale Bulletin. Send Bobby
address of Christine Woelz for daily Hale email bulletin to announce Tues-Thurs
conditioning run by captains Patrick & Corbin.
Prospective assistant coach Taylor
decided that he could not commit because of conflicts with his business. BL put
out notice to players he knows & had one interested party who does not seem
to be a good candidate. He posted a notice on WALAX today & hopes for some
response. Fred is part of UW lacrosse club & will spread the word there. KM
will look for Hale alums & friends who might be interested in, consulting
with Ken Kerkhoff. BL feels he can handle the coaching duties until a good assistant
is found. Scott Karlin, former coach who couldn’t sustain a full-time
commitment, might be available as an assistant.
No changes in season schedule so
far. New Parks Dept. policy that we need to sign & return involving a
standards of behavior requirement & other requirements such as noise
limits. They need to confirm availability of fields for games & practice
times & then we will send payment. The schedule will be posted on the
sportability.com site. The season starts March 8 but there is not necessarily a
game that day.
TO commented on the littering &
wastage of bottled water. We have a large cooler & they could bring their
own refillable water bottles. We also have squirt bottles that work better with
a helmet on.
The Lynden tournament will be held
again but there was interest in finding an alternative. Pres-season
alternatives might be a ropes course, paintball, or a pizza dinner. BL talked
about a tournament at Boise High School he has been contacted about the same
weekend as Lynden (March 8). If we were to participate, it would need to be
planned & arranged in time for the January 30 organizational meeting. It is
an 8-hour drive. Have to leave Friday morning & miss school & get back
late Sunday night & stay 2 nights. BL says it is a good experience to play
a lot of different teams at a lot of different locations. There is also a
jamboree the same weekend on Bainbridge Island, which is more convenient.
Another possibility is a pre-season scrimmage with the Hale Girls’ lacrosse
team. (KM will be out of town the last week of February & 1st
week of March.) 1st choice is Bainbridge if we can get in, Lynden
would be backup, Boise unrealistic.
Have a social get-together and a
tournament both? A social event around the start of practice (Monday 2/25)? Pizza
after practice on Friday 2/29 or extra practice Saturday March 1. Need to
reserve a field for Saturday—(Magnuson with picnic shelters?)
Glenn Osborn started a new job
& may need help with scorekeeping. Glenn Harvey has offered.
Players can drive themselves to
nearby games, but can’t drive others. We have a bus available for 1 game,
looking like it would be best to use it for the 5 PM game at Overlake March 27.
There are now 4 subdivisions in the
league instead of 3, so the game schedule is shorter (10 games instead of 14)
but the playoffs will be longer. Can we got some more exhibition games to get
more challenging experiences and be ready for the playoffs?
TO will still plan to operate
concession stands.
KM will be out of town February 6
for next scheduled meeting, so we will meet on Monday the 11th at 7:30 at Ellen
Hofmann’s.
Players can join USlacrosse for $40
& get magazine & free supplementary insurance.
