NH LAX board meeting minutes 9/5/07

Present: Kelly Malone, Ellen Hoffman, Glenn & Tamara Osborn, Glenn Harvey, Richard Strickland (recording)

Bobby committed to return as coach, Mike uncertain. Cole is tentatively planning to assist. Kelly says it is desirable to have 3 coaches in order to devote time to younger players. Heather (Bobbys girlfriend) volunteered a lot & we should formalize her role as trainer (would require a background check as with any hire). Do we need background checks on parents who transport or stay with players too? Do parents already sign waiver forms that they allow their players to travel with other parents, relieving board of liability?

Copies of 07 season highlights DVD were distributed at the end of the 07 school year. Copies are still available from Ellen Hoffman (Kevin Harkeys mom) if you didnt get one.

Need to recruit more parents for future continuity, because several of us board members are parents of graduating seniors. Kerri Adams (Spencers mom) agreed to serve as the Booster representative. Tamara is willing to continue transportation & Glenn scorekeeping, but both would like to train backups/successors. We have relied on Ken Kerkhoff for field setup—Kelly will contact him. Glenn O is willing to assist with field setup. Ellen is willing to remain as treasurer & Richard as webmaster. Stan Boone is no longer with the school.

Recruit at fall Open House (where parents tour classes) on Thursday September 27 6:30 – 9:30 PM. Have some materials that were used at Freshman Open House. Invite Bobby. Does Ingraham have one too? Kelly will check. Jordan Sullivan from football team?Glenn H says he has not had much luck recruiting more players from other schools. So far there may be 1–2 new students from other schools.

If we want to plan a tournament we need to start doing that. We also need to start planning registration.

Fund Raising: Last years September car wash was very successful. Coach Boone was a great booster for that event, with the materials, advance ticket sales. Problem with drainage of wash water into Thornton Creek? Sell car wash tickets instead of holding our own wash? Target Saturday the 29th 10:30 – 2 (set up at 10). Huskies home vs. USC at 5 PM that day. no girls soccer game that day, football is Friday night. Combine efforts with girls lacrosse team, with presale competition & reward for sales champ? Promote at Open House. Location: Hale? Move site to Santorinis as cheerleaders did? U Village Burgermaster (requires sump pump)? Laurelhurst Union 76? Tamara is willing to lead the snack bar effort, with other parents to sign up to assist. There is interest in having more Raider gear (T-shirts, etc.) made.

Tournament: Field costs are minimal ($8/field/hout), official costs are higher ($30-40/game). Lynden costs were $63 per player including motel ($200 per team registration). Choose format (elimination, round robin, coed). Should promise teams a minimum number of games for their travel. Presume start-of-season scheduling. How many teams, how many simultaneous games, which teams to invite? Or possibly set up arranged games with selected teams (e.g. Oregon)? It would be easy to invite teams here, but it is also fun to travel. We will ask Bobby his view.

Registration Kelly has been exploring online registration & there was agreement that this is a good idea. Cost is about $20 or 10% of total cost (for D4 Sports?). Some players had difficulty registering last year & gave up. We dont know whether any players did not register because of cost. We want to formalize the process of requesting financial assistance—using credit card registration may help. Last year $175 early registration & $200 late, on the low end of team costs. Our costs should be at a par with other teams we play. But we dont want costs to deter players when other sports are less expensive. The registration should also include a box to check for additional donations.

Explore idea of a demo at football half time. Have Bobby talk to Hoover, Cheerleaders take shots, spectators take shots? Girls & parents lacrosse players as ringers?

Return to regular schedule of 1st Wednesday of the month. Oct. 3 is the next meeting at Ellens.
