| Just Another Day 'Tis another early morning From my sleep I wake I grab my sword And my spellbooks, I forget not to take I shine my sword and brush my stallion of silver and blue As I shine, my page approaches He has a message from the king "My son has been captured and brought into the forest I need you to me him bring." So I say farewell and bid ado Into the forest I travel on my horse Long time I follow the trail Tired and weary I become And the air dose taste stale Deep into the forest I tread As the trail thinner becomes I notice something new 'Tis a wood nymph i've seen not before Her long hair falls down with a golden hue Of these I've never seen, only read She twists and dances entrancingly And then begins to fade She is gone as soon as she came With hair of gold and eyes of jade I ponder what other secrets this forest may hide Off the path I notice a pig On two feet he stands, wearing a tophat He grumpily complains to a sheep with a vest I don't want to talk to them, I'll stay where i'm at With them I want not to collide I speed away on my mount Looking for the prince A wild child of the forest pops out from a bush He is covered in dirt, his face he does not rinse Yet he gives a wild smile with wild teeth He opens his mouth to speak to me "Watch for Deamons" he warns He now runs back into the forest Back into the thorns Frightened, my sword I now unsheathe I travel deeper into the darkest parts of the forest I jump when i see deamons three I bite down hand and charge "Give me the prince, by the King's decree" I slash at a deamon with my sword The deamons stab at me with twisted knives With red skin and a wicked face Once stabs my heart I fall and my head begins to race I bid farewell to the life I had adored The deamons have left me to die I realize my quest I have lost Just then a pixie flys to me On my wounds she places a silver frost The frost melts as my wounds heal The pain fades away and is gone I smile at my new friend I would have died I would be at my end The pixie to me a vial did reveal She leaves the vial at my side As she flys away Some mushrroms with big smiles wander up to me "We'll take you to the prince" one did say The rest giggle as we leave the path They take me to a campsite filled with deamons There must be twenty-three Then i see the heir to the throne Limp, weak, and tied to a tree I want not to feel twenty-three deamons' wrath I drink the prixie's vial My body fades before my own eyes No longer in sight i creep over to the prince When he hears my voice with joy he crys With my sword I cut him free We ride back to the castle as quick as possible The prince thanks me for my deed "Tis my duty, my prince" I say The king is joyous when he sees his son freed "Twas just another day of Chivalry" By Nate Cornelius (Copywritten) |
| Commentary By Author This was one of my first poems, although it still remains a favorite. It does have a rhyme scheme, but it is rahter hard to follow. The second line of every stanza rhymes with the fourth line in that same stanza. And the last line of every two stanzas rhyme. This would be something like ABCBD EFGFD; quite confuzing. Also one of my favorite aspects of this poem is that it is completely metaphorical, and has a meaning deeper than what is shown. Almost every object or creature mentioned represents something in my life. My horse (of silver and blue) is, in actuality my blue and silver colored car. All the friendly creatures represent my friends. The deamons represent all the assholes at school, the kids whose sole purpose in life is to make yours worse. This poem illistrates how a little help and support from my friends can help me deal with any annoyances that come my way. |
