I bet every single one of you can say you've heard that at least twenty times per day recently. It's a virus, I swear. I was surfing around some message boards and every one of them has a topic about Rick James. I thought that this was only said nonstop around Enola, but I was way off. I decided to check out the RickJames.com message boards to see what kinds of things were being said. More like one thing, though. It was either the poster was being Rick James (bitch) or telling the world what the five fingers said to the face (slap). The Rick James skit isn't even the best thing Chappelle's Show has to offer. The "Niggar Family" skit was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Now that's worth repeating. But instead, we get fifty thousand Rick James' running around. Most of them are 100% white. Perhaps even 110%. The problem here isn't even the overused aspect of the quote. It's the fact that
most people that say it either: I have no idea what could be funny about, "Random Person, Bitch!" It just doesn't make sense. There is nothing funny about "I'm Rick James, bitch!" if you don't even know who Rick James is. That's not even 1% funny if you don't know who he is. Even if you do know who Rick James is, it's still not 1% funny if you haven't seen the episode. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been asked "Hey, who is Rick James?" after the person just said the now infamous quote. Someone even had the audacity to ask me if Rick James went to our school. There is nothing wrong with the quote if you have seen the episode and could tell someone who Rick James is. The skit was funny, after all. But it got ruined by a monkey-see monkey-do aspect, where everyone feels the need to do what everyone else is doing to gain acceptance. Shame. If you're really here to find out who Rick James is, I guess you should know. Rick James is an 80's funk artist who is essentially famous for two things: "Superfreak," and cocaine. Lots of cocaine. But if you've seen the skit, you'd know that... |
