NCAA Football 2005
The game gets better every year, but this one is above and beyond. The additions are pretty expansive to this year's college football game. A few more days and we'll find out if Madden 2005 is superior. And I'm not buying into the ESPN 2K5 debate.

A quick rundown of the new or improved features:

Home Field Advantage: When you are the home team, the crowd actually plays a role in the game. The louder the crowd, the more difficult it will be for the visiting team to call hot routes and audibles, and the snap count is also more difficult to execute. This is still fairly bare-bones, though, and I'd like to see the crowd have more of an impact. It's a great idea, though.

Improved Animations: The running and tackling animations are much improved. When a player cuts, it actually looks as if he uses his legs as opposed to just twisting his body in a different direction like he's made of rubber, or perhaps some sort of hydrochloric...never mind.

Improved Defense/Big Hit: The defense is far more effective, which creates a more fun game, as opposed to the 75-68 halftime scores of the past. You can no longer simply throw the ball into the air and expect to get consistent results. The pass rush is greatly improved. By pressing L2, you can use a "Big Hit," which may cause a fumble or a dropped pass. Should rival Madden's "Hit Stick" concept.

Passing Control: You now actually have to lead your receiver using the directional pad. You lead him or vice versa, in any direction you want. It sounds difficult and stupid, but this gives you complete control over the ball's location. The computer won't pass for you anymore, newbies. Now you actually have to be skilled and think quickly. Yay me.

There are other small improvements as well. I'd like to see more expansiveness to the Home Field Advantage concept. Naturally, graphics are improved, and small things like that. It was disappointing that you couldn't create your own plays, however. Maybe next year? Only one year until the release of NCAA 2006, start counting.
