| Miami lost its second straight game to an inferior opponent when it lost to Clemson on Saturday. Tennessee dropped a big game to the Fighting Irish for their second loss of the season. That is enough to drop both of them out of the Top 10 and propel surprising Utah and steady UVA into the mix. |

| Week 10 #1 OU (9-0) 42 Texas A&M (6-3) 35 This was a great football game, and it was yet another week of OU fans letting out a collective sigh. It may not have been a missed field goal that saved the Sooners from overtime, but it was a hail mary pass that came about a foot and a half from sending the game to extra time. The Sooners trailed by 14 through a good portion of this game, but they managed to take the lead shortly after halftime. The Aggies scored TDs on their first three possessions, and the OU Offense started a little slow. Jason White showed the world in this game why he was the Heisman winner last year. He was brilliant (and he had to be), hitting on 19/35 for 292 yards and (tying a career and school high) 5 TDs. Adrian Peterson was able to extend his record 100-yard game streak to 9 (his last carry coming after a separated shoulder). Reggie McNeal was brilliant on the ground and through the air, but he was knocked out of the game when the Sooner D stepped it up after the half. It was yet another frighteningly close one, but Auburn was idle and USC barely squeaked by in Corvallis, so OU is still my #1. This Week: v. Nebraska #2 USC (9-0) 28 Oregon State (4-5) 20 The fog was absolutely horrible in Corvallis for this game. At one point, the announcers couldn't tell if a flag had been thrown, because they couldn't even see the official. Oregon State held on to their 13-0 lead for as long as they could, but the Trojans proved much too strong in the end, scoring 28 unanswered points before the Beavers finally reached the endzone again, this time when it barely mattered anymore. This team showed a lot of determination and the veteran presence to pull off this win, much as the Sooners did in their win over the Aggies. Although this was an impressive victory, it is not enough to vault them into the number one spot yet. Their only remaining test is against Notre Dame, and they get the Irish in LA, so that will likely only be a good game on paper. At this point, nothing stands between USC and the Orange Bowl but themselves. This Week: v. Arizona #3 Auburn (9-0) Idle This Week: v. Georgia #4 Wisconsin (9-0) 38 Minnesota (6-4) 14 Did anybody expect the Badgers to spank their archrivals this bad? The battle for Paul Bunyan's axe was fairly one-sided, as Wisconsin QB John Stocco threw for a career-high 297 yards and a TD and ran for 2 more. This is the best the Badgers have looked all season, and the first time they have scored more than 24 points in 7 games. A trip to Michigan State next week and a trip to Iowa are all that separate Wisconsin from perfection. This Week: @ Michigan State #5 Texas (8-1) 56 Oklahoma State (6-3) 35 This was the best comeback I have ever witnessed. Texas truly showed great character, when they managed to come back from a 35-7 deficit in the first half to win 56-35. Cedric Benson scored 5 TDs, and UT flexed on defense to crush the O-State Cowboys. This was a game that everyone expected the Longhorns to win, but it was a rallying speech at halftime by Mack Brown that got Texas fired up enough to finally play to their potential for a full half of football. They have now overtaken Cal as the best one-loss team in football. Vince Young hit on 18 of 21 for 278 yards and a TD and Cedric Benson carried 23 times for 141 yards to lead the Horns. This Week: @ Kansas #6 Cal (7-1) 28 Oregon (5-4) 27 The second half of the Cali-Oregon battle was even more of a nail-biter than the first. Not a single interception was thrown in this game, despite the 65 passes that flew through the air, between Aaron Rodgers and Kellen Clemons. In the end, it was the courage of Geoff McArthur, who ignored the pain in his separated shoulder to haul in the go ahead throw from Aaron Rodgers. A final attempt by the Ducks was dropped to end what would have been a major upset. This Week: @ Washington #7 Utah (9-0) 63 Colorado State (5-3) 31 This is the first 9-0 start in Ute history, and it is also the highest scoring team in University history. Alex Smith is performing incredibly. Were he at any other school, he would likely be the front runner for the Heisman trophy. In this game, he hit on 21 of 26 passes for 291 yards and 4 TDs. Urban Meyer has certainly built Utah into an offensive powerhouse, and theire is no sign that anyone will be able to slow them down. With only a trip to Wyoming and a home contest against BYU remaining, it is unlikely that anyone will dent Utah's record, but it is also their weak schedule that may cause them the most problems when they are trying to secure a BCS bid. The only real contender they have played is Texas A&M (whom they handled rather well at home 41-21), so the argument is whether they have been tested enough to be considered for a BCS berth. My vote is with them, but I don't think they will make it. This Week: @ Wyoming #8 Michigan (8-1) Idle This Week: v. Northwestern #9 Georgia (8-1) 62 Kentucky (1-8) 17 David Greene has now won 40 games, and he did it in style on Saturday, hitting on 14 of 19 throws for 259 yards and a TD. This game was never close, and it shouldn't have been. Georgia is in a completely different category than Kentucky, and likely should still be undefeated. If not for one aberration, at home nonetheless, everyone would be talking about how Georgia and Auburn this weekend is the last remaining battle of undefeateds before the bowl season. It is still huge, but not as big as it could be. Will it be win #41 for Greene, or will it be Auburn's 10th this season? That remeains to be seen. This Week: @ Auburn 10 UVA (6-1) 16 Maryland (4-5) 0 The Cavs seem to have finally put the Talahassee mess behind them. Losing to FSU early so badly hurt the aspirations that this team had for itself. Shutting out a Terrapin squad that had just smacked down on the same Seminole team the week before seems to have done just that. The two-headed beast of Alvin Pearman and Wali Lundy combined for 277 yards and 2 TDs on the ground to grind out the clock and allow the UVA defense to dominate the Terps. Next week's fight against the Canes will set the Cavs up for a potential ACC title. This Week: v. Miami |
