Preseason: Oklahoma Picked 6th for 2005 by Desert SAPPER
All America Candidates:                                    Danger Games:
Adrian Peterson, RB                                           @UCLA
(Davin Joseph, OT)                                              Texas
(Travis Wilson, WR)                                           @Nebraska
(Dusty Dvoracek, DT)                                         @Texas Tech
(Rufus Alexander, LB)

Oklahoma's confidence has been shattered in the post season for two straight years, and last year's shellacking in the Orange Bowl may have been completely debilitating but for one small thing.  The Sooners lost 10 to the NFL Draft (Plus Jason White, the Heisman Trophy winning QB that got them to two straight championship games).  For most teams, this would be a curse, but for the Sooners it may be the fresh start they need to get beyond the negative mojo of the past two post-seasons.  The talent pool may have been diminished by the loss of so many starters and key contributors, but the Sooners have the talent to once again compete for all the marbles.  The biggest reason?  Adrian "AD" Peterson returns after setting the NCAA Freshman rushing mark.  He is an incredible talent, and could help offset the uncertainty at QB.  OU returns Travis Wilson, possibly the best receiver on the team last year (he was only slightly outshone by All-American Mark Clayton and he scored more TDs).  The Defense looks to be stellar again, but having to replace both safeties could be daunting.  In the end, expect the 6th straight 11-win season, potentially the 3rd straight 12-win season, possibly a Big XII championship berth (if they beat Texas in October), and possibly a spot in Pasadena (only if they have a better record than all other possibilities - voters will be wary this time).

Week 1: TCU 17 OU 10

In a stunning opening loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, the Sooners fumbled four times and threw an interception.  The carousel at quarterback began when Junior Paul Thompson was unable to create anything on offense.  His replacement, redshirt freshman Rhett Bomar was equally unsuccessful, looking dazed and confused for the majority of his introductory performance.  Heisman Trophy runner-up Adrian Peterson was held to only 63 yards on 22 carries and looked lost most of the game.  TCU QB Tye Gunn looked spectacular against a struggling OU secondary.  This was the first opening loss for the Sooners since 1997.
Week 2: OU 31 Tulsa 15

The Sooners made the decision at QB, starting Rhett Bomar in this contest.  Not only did he not look sharp, the Sooners did not attempt a pass in the second half, controlling the clock with Peterson's legs, which churned up 220 yards on 32 carries against the Golden Hurricane.  Tulsa TE/H-Back Garrett Mills carved up the Sooner secondary for 152 yards on 13 catches.  The OU secondary looks ripe for an embarrassment against the high-powered UCLA offense they face in the Rose Bowl next week.
Week 3: UCLA 41 OU 24

This was a close game early, but a struggling Sooner offense gave up 3 fumbles to a hungry Bruin team.  Although Bomar finally showed that he can throw the ball (20/29 for 241 yards), Peterson struggled to only 58 yards on 23 carries (Travis Wilson led the team with 61 yards rushing - mostly off a big 56-yard reverse for a touchdown in the first quarter).  The defense was on the field for most of the game again, and they faced some impossible situations.  Every spark of hope OU saw backfired in this game, but they may be able to get something back next week in a home bout with the K-State Wildcats.
