Kosciusko

Named after Tadeusz Kosciusko, a Polish General who served as military engineer in the
American Revolutionary War, Kosciusko is one of the oldest remaining settlements on the
Natchez Trace. Like the General, whose love of freedom led him to America to help the
colonies during their struggle for independence, Kosciusko is distinctive.

Located in the center of Mississippi, the town was once a campsite for travelers making the
long trip from Natchez to Nashville by way of the Natchez Trace. Today, visitors stop to
gather with the friendly people of Kosciusko and enjoy some of their nationally known
antique shops, restaurants and bed and breakfasts.

Kosciusko is home to the Kosciusko Museum and Information Center. Located at mile
marker 160 on the Trace, the museum houses permanent and monthly exhibits of
Tadeusz Kosciusko, the man, and Kosciusko, the town, as well a information about other
Mississippi attractions.

While Kosciusko boast several interesting historical attractions, it also celebrates being the
birthplace of Oprah Winfrey and the site of the annual Natchez Trace Festival.
