Nathaniel Atwood was one of the first settlers of Lakenham, now Carver, Massachusetts. Born at Plymouth Colony, 25 February 1651/52, the son of immigrant ancestors John and Sarah (Masterson) Wood alias Atwood, "Nathaniel Atwood was a Deacon and a farmer and lived on the Salmon Atwood farm in what is now Carver" (Atwood by Shurtleff). Nathaniel married Mary, probably Lucas, daughter of Thomas Lucas. Mrs John Barclay of Whitman Mass detailed reasons for identification of Nathaniel Atwood's wife as Mary Lucas in a well reasoned article in The American Genealogist 41: (200-205)
