| You just graduated from college and you then set off to find yourself a job. The battle is all yours and competition is the name of the game. But before you can fully immerse yourself in the job rush, you must undergo a series of trials and tests. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You don't want to get in there lacking in either the equipment or strategy department. Many unprepared warriors have been chewed up and spit out by the system. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You have browsed the classified ads in the paper, surf the sites on the internet that could offer you a job, asked some of your friends who might recommend you to a company and did every "job-searching" you could possibly do. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You now have the company that you'd try getting in. Then, you have submitted your resume and is just waiting for that one phone call. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You thank the day you hear your phone ring and the voice on the other line says: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Hello, this is Mr. De la Peña from the Ayala Group of Companies. We received your resume and are calling to ask if you are interested in arranging to meet." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Even before you hang up, you're already jumping up and down, while visions of briefcases and salaries dance in your head. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| But wait, you actually didn't get the job yet. Wait till you get interviewed. The interview part is no joke… this is one fight you'd have to surpass. This is really where your ability is tested. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Problem is, you'll never get a job showing up a nervous wreck. If an interviewer sees you're desperate in a sweat-stained shirt, unruly hair, and stammering, the job that rightfully should be yours will go to your competitor. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| So, check out these ways on handling the job interview dilemma! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Step 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Market Analysis | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Knowing how to approach each company and what skills to emphasize will require that you know something about the company. Show them you're willing to go the distance by conducting your own investigation before hitting them up for an offer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1. Hit the books. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do some research. Look up to corporate directories that can tell you everything there is to know about the company. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2. In the News | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Step 2
| Groomsville
| You don't want to get your interviewer dismayed after seeing how you look. Tidy yourself up during a job interview!
| 1. Hair
| Men should keep their locks trimmed and shave off any hint of any goatee and sideburns. Women need to tie their long hair to avoid from covering their face.
| 2. Make-up and cologne
| Women are entitled to wear make-up. But, keep it thin! You don't want to look like you're on a beauty pageant. Make-up is strictly off-limits for men.
| Keep your cologne light. Obviously, body odor is never a welcome smell. Be conscious about that!
|
| 3. Clothes
| Get that corporate get up!
| Suits are preferably for men. Women may either choose pantsuits or skirt. Make sure the skirt isn't too short or too tight.
| Step 3
| The Big Day
| This is it! The moment you've been waiting for.
| 1. Never be late for an appointment. It's better that you wait for the employer than the other way around.
| 2. While you're waiting, be sure to look poised and at ease. Do not bite your nails, pick your nose, pace up and down the room and so forth. Someone is spying on you, so watch yourself.
| 3. You're bound to get nervous at some point during the interview. Stay calm. Don't forget to breathe!
| 4. Avoid saying the negative about yourself.
| 5. Give a short but creative response to the interviewer's questions.
| 6. Always show courtesy to the interviewer.
| 7. Lastly, don't get intimidated with the interviewer. He/She is equally nervous as you are in trying to make a good impression too.
| There you have it… three major steps to get your job interview right! All it takes is a little confidence, perseverance and discipline.
| Now, you just have to wait for that phone call again… this time the voice on the other line saying: "Congratulations! The job is yours."
