Story Graph – Homework Assignment

Fun with the story graph!

Label each part of your homework with the Roman numeral and name listed below.

I. Terms

Look up each of the 7 terms in a good (not abridged) dictionary.  You can use www.merriam-webster.com if you do so choose.  Write the name of each of the terms, followed by the definition you find.  Do not abbreviate.

1.     Exposition (find the literary meaning, not the musical or trade show/carnival one)

2.     Rising Action

3.     Climax

4.     Falling Action

5.     Resolution (Denouement)

6.     Character

7.     Theme

II.  Application

Using one book you have read for English in high school (such as To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies) write a short description of what happens in the story at each “element point” (numbers 1-7, above).  For example, for exposition, describe where and when the story takes place; for character, describe three or four of the main characters.  Use the same book for all examples, and be sure to punctuate your titles correctly!
