Anybody who is into Japanese Animation has at least one favorite anime they enjoy watching. There are certain elements about that particular show that you just love and obsess over. Like you happen to love this character because they're this, or you like this person because they're that, or you love the overall plot of the show, and so forth. However, if there is something you like about a show, there is a good chance that you do not like something about it. Samurai Troopers is my all time favorite anime show (as if you didn't know by now :p). I love many things about it that it would be impossible to list them all down at once. Never the less, there are a few things about YST I'm not fond about. In this rant I'll discuss what I don't like about Samurai Troopers and why. I will gradually be adding on other stuff as I go along. For now this is what I have. I will first start off with the information.
Official information is, duh, official. No matter how you can argue with it, it is stated as fact, whether you like it or not. The creators of Samurai Troopers are the brains behind our armor gear wearing boys. However when it came time to release the official information regarding everything from the characters to the armor gears, there is contradicting information! Yes, even Sunrise sometimes can't get their information straight with one another! I figure it is bad enough that there is false and "fanfic" ideas that goes around the Internet and assumed by many fans to be true when it is now (i.e. Seiji being a flirt, Ryo being an orphan, etc). Yet when it comes to Sunrise's contradicting information, it kind of sucks. For instance for Nasty's birthday: according to the Yoroiden-Samurai Troopers Memorials book, her birthday is listed as May 15th. Yet in the Encyclopedia of Yoroiden-Samurai Troopers it is May 28th. Both are considered official... But it does not make sense. TWO birthdays? Gee, and here I thought people were only born once in a life time.
Another issue that has Sunrise contradicting its own information on is the three treasures: the Kikoutei, the Korestu Ken, and the Inochi no Magatama. Their creation, purposes, and power levels have been discussed in the Encyclopedia of Yoroiden-Samurai Troopers, the Kikoutei Densetsu book, the Message Vol. 1 book, and Touma in the 1st episode of "Message." While the information is somewhat similar, just the overall fact that there are alterations of the explanation makes it kind of confusing. They are all correct yet it would make better sense to have just one right answer to end all arguments one may have about the treasures.
Instead of creating the anime first and then the manga, I wish the creators had created the manga first and then the anime. With the manga, the creators could have gone into further detail with the storylines, the depths of the characters, and so forth. From the manga you can get straight up information about everything centering Samurai Troopers. Instead with the release of the anime, you have the producers and the directors of the TV series and OAVs writing novels on the questions left out of the show, like how the Troopers discovered their armors, the history behind the Kaosu clan, etc. This is just my opinion (well everything here is my opinion :p) but I believe if this had occurred first, the series could have ran longer than just 39 TV episodes and 3 OAVs.
More to come!
