There are many wonderful, talented YST/RW authors out there, no doubt about it. The demand for good, quality fanfiction is high and its pretty much a supply and demand deal: author writes and posts a story, people read it, they demand more, and so the author writes more. What really irritates me, is how some people want a little TOO much of something. Some readers are so hooked to a story, that they want to read more right then right now. However, the author hasnt posted another chapter. Some fans can be really nice and ask the author when the next chapter of their story will be released. Or there can be those real @$$holes who decide to FLAME the author for being slow in their release of chapters. Oh yeah, like that is going to help the author write faster
Is it me, or do certain readers not realize that people have lives outside the Internet? I know that the Internet is pretty addicting but there is more to life than just surfing the net. This applies to the authors of fanfics. Some of them have school, or work to attend to, families and friends to be with, etc. There was this one girl who claimed to love reading my stories, yet because I havent been able to post any new chapters, she tells I havent the right to call myself a true YST/RW (Okay, whatever). Well I hate to rain on your parade, but I do have priorities to fulfill. I hope you dont think I sound snobbish or anything about my fics because in all honestly I think my stories suck and few people enjoy them... but thats another story. Anyway, people do have off days where they cant think of what to write (ala Writers Block), or they are just far too busy with their lives; anime fics are the last thing on their minds. Well, I know they are from my mind.
Its nice to receive e-mail on any stories youve written, but having someone flame you and telling you to hurry the hell up isnt going to get the story written any faster, folks. I know some authors who got so frustrated with people constantly bothering them about their fanfics that they simply quit writing fics all together.
Fanfic authors are not machines. They are people who write stories because they enjoy it. They make no money off of fanfiction but they find it fun never the less. So if readers are eager to await a new chapter from their favorite author, why not read other fics or heck, why not write your own stories? Who cares if you think you cant write as well as others? Just remember that in time, the things you enjoy most will come to you in time. Those chapters will eventually come so for now... Go outside and hang with your friends.
