        The Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated was chartered on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, by five men of prestige on March 3rd 1975.  The charter members:  James Spencer, Robert Roberts, Kenneth Brisco, Eric Talley, and Walter Johnson sought to bring the positive influence of the men of Royal Blue and Pure White to the U.M.B.C. community.  Recognized by the University on May 10th 1976, the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated became the FIRST fraternal Greek Lettered organization on U.M.B.C.'s campus.

        Since then the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated has brought more than 140 members into Sigma Land.  Over the past 25 years we have upheld our principles and values of TRUE brotherhood and community service without shallow and unnecessary titles.  Examples of our community service accomplishments include feeding the homeless, cleaning Maryland Transit Association (MTA) bus stops, mentoring Baltimore city high school students, monetary donations to various organizations such as the United Negro College Fund (which received more than $10,000 of funds from the Zeta Upsilon Chapter throughout the 1980s and 1990s), cleaning various Baltimore landmarks, various educational, influential, and political programs held at U.M.B.C., and many other community service projects.
