Norooz
Here is the "sofreh ye  haft sin" at my place

Furthermore, we add a Koran to show the presence of God, a mirror to symbolise the destiny, Hyacinths  to symbolise the revival of the nature,
red fishes in a small aquarium to symbolise life, decorated eggs to symbolise birth, a jar of water to symbolize purity and freshness,  coins  to symbolize prosperity.
An orange is placed in a bowl of water representing the earth. At the exact time of new year, the orange starts to turn in the water.

This celebration of Norooz is really important for Persians. It's part of our identity, because it comes from our ancester.
Norooz, the iranian new year, is celebrated on the first day of Spring, the 21st of March, for more than 7000 years.
Fifteen days before Norooz, we set the table  which, in iranian, is called "Sofreh ye haft sin". "Haft sin" means seven "
S".
So, on the "Sofreh ye Haft sin" we nicely set the followings:
        -<
SERKEH> vinegar
        -<
SEEB> apple
        -<
SEER> garlic
        -<
SENJED> wild olive
        -<
SOMAGH> sumac
        -<
SAMANOO> Flour mixed with juice of germinating wheat
           -<
SABZEH> a dish of raised wheat or other seed spour.
on the table, all of those starting with an "
S".
