When a chapter needs to lease or purchase space for meetings, a House Corporation is required to be chartered. These are are non-profit corporations that manage and maintain their respective properties. Though we are used to these being residential "houses", sometimes they are non-residential university suites in a campus panhellenic building.
The House Corporation is made up of a Board of Directors composed of a majority of alumnae members, but with at least three chapter members. The Corporation holds title to the real estate, building, furniture, and equipment on the chapter house/suite premises.
The purpose of the Board of Directors is to facilitate financial and policy interactions with the chapter to ensure that a safe, attractive, and financially viable environment is provided for chapter members. |
