Carlos, Trent, Trivette, Alex, were listening to Micah's weekly tirade about bureaucracy and
stupidity within the state of Texas. "I don't know how much longer I can handle this job. Alex,
when is this country going to say hey you beat up your kid, you don't automatically have the right
to get them back Or better when are they going to say hey six years with one family isn't temporary
. Maybe I need a new job." Alex smiled and told her something she thought she would never hear.
"I want you to run the HOPE center." Micah was thrilled. "Your sure your not toying with me. I
love that idea. Oh I have to go I promised Jen I would meet her for lunch. I give them my notice
today. Oh Alex, I am going to get Jen to teach a self-defense class for the woman. This is so great.
" With that Micah was off. Carlos was shocked he had ever let his stupid pride come between them.
Trent smiled at h is partner and best friend "You should ask her out." Carlos shook his head no.
Micah had changed and so had he. She wasn't the same seventeen year old who'd left Dallas to go
to UT Austin and got her Masters in Sociology and now was working on her doctorate at SMU. She
had worked her way through school, and he had accused her of not loving him, and thinking he
wasn't good enough for her. Even though they had both been seventeen. He had never forgiven
himself for hurting her.
At the station Jen knew automatically just by looking at Micah the day had been rough on her. "So
what happened?" Micah smiled. "The usual got called out at Midnight a baby found in a dumpster
crack addicted, a six year old beaten and raped by the mother's boyfriend, but Mom doesn't think
he did it, and the girl is lying, and let's see took a six year old from the only home he's known for
the last four years because Mom is now clean and sober for 30 days." Jen knew better than to
interrupt one of Micah's tirades. "On the brighter side I'm quitting TDHS and going to work for
the HOPE center and I want you to teach a class there what do you think?" Jen was shocked for all
of Micah's complaining she was great at her job. "A class in self-defense. Oh come on Jen you
would be terrific, you learned from the best Walker and the Military/Karate Academies." Jen
agreed and asked the question that Micah knew was coming. "So how was Trent, and when are
you going to give Carlos a break." Micah rolled her eyes they had this conversation many times in
the last 7 years. "Your almost as bad as Uncle Ray was about the subject you know that don't
you." Jen nodded and Micah had to smile. "Sunday is his birthday do you want to get flowers and
ride out there." The girls didn't do it just on his birthday but whenever something was bothering
them they both would just disappear and go to Uncle Ray's grave and talk to him. Micah looked at
the girl who was close to a sister as she would ever have. Yes her biological father was somewhere
out there, but any children he had would be a stranger to her. Jen she had known all her life.
Walker and Uncle Ray had raised her since her parents were brutally murdered when she was two,
by some psychopath who wanted Jen, and Micah had grown up around Jen since Walker and her
mother had been friends on the Reservation where parents had been the health care providers.
Two weeks later Micah was happier at the HOPE center than she had ever been at TDHS. Alex
walked in. "So how are things going." Micah filled her in and told her things were going great and
she finally felt like she was making a difference. "Jen's class starts in fifteen minutes you want to
hang out and watch it. An when is Walker getting back I miss him, you know it's weird being at the
ranch by myself." Alex looked at her. "Although when he's not undercover he's never there."
Alex told her that she understood. Trent and Carlos walked in and she was surprised. "Okay guys
what are you doing here?" Trent said they wanted to stop and see how the class went. Carlos said
he needed to talk to her which shocked and thrilled her to. "In my office?" He nodded and they
went in there. Meanwhile Jen walked in and Trent was immediately shocked for some reason
Jennifer looked different. She didn't look like the same person that he had known when he left for
the Army, and even though he had seen her since he had been back it had never hit him before like
it had just then that she was a woman. "Hey." Jen said hi and looked around for Micah. "She's in
her office talking to Carlos." Jen was shocked and surprised. From the time she was 14 to this very
day she had thought Trent was the most handsome man in the world and he had always been nice
and polite and friendly. Trent was also shocked he never expected to feel the things he was feeling
at this moment for Jennifer.
Meanwhile in Huntsville something was happening that was going to rock Jennifer's world and put
her in danger. The man who had killed her parents was being paroled. In his cell John Roberts was
packing his things. "Finally after twenty years I am getting out of this hell hole. 'I want my revenge'. John Roberts said as he sat in his jail cell. He wanted his revenge for 20 years. He had been
waiting for the perfect time, the time to get Cordell Walker and that damn cousin of his. "Roberts!,"
A police officer yelled at him. "Your free to go now." John smiled. Today he was a free man.
Today he would kill Cordell Walker. He got up and went to his suit case which was laying on the
table. he opened it and inside revealed pictures of Walker. One was of him in his younger ages,
possible 15 years ago. He was standing in his Army uniform and hat. Next to him was two little
girls. Micah and Jennifer. He then looked at a newer picture of Walker, he had his cowboy hat and
badge on. He then looked in the back and pulled out a picture of a woman who was 20 and
the picture was taken 2 years ago. The picture was of Jennifer Hendricks, and she was in a army
uniform. He smiled. 'Yes I'm going to get my revenge on you my girl, and this time, poor Cordell
won't be there to help you.' He put the picture back in the case and then shut it and then went out the
cell and out the open door. When he got out he looked at the bright sun. "I'm free! I'm free!" He
yelled at the sky. The sun shone on his wicked, ugly, pale face. "There's no stopping me now! I'm free!"
In Dallas the next morning Micah was sitting at the table drinking her coffee reading the paper and was shocked at the cover story. "No that can't be true. He can't be getting out. How in the hell
could that happen." She ran to the phone and called Alex who confirmed it and pointed out that if
he came within a 100 yards he would be arrested and he had probably had forgotten all about her.
Micah hoped so and decided she should try to reach Jennifer before she found out about this from
somebody else. She tried to reach Jen but she wasn't answering her phone. "Damn it's an hour
drive from here to her condo. Trent lives 15 minutes away. I'll call him." Micah did and was able
to convince Trent to go over and get Jen to call her.
