Chapter 19
Three hours had past, Shane was still M.I.A. I was worried sick, biting the nubs at the end of my fingers. Tyler, where do you think he went? I asked quietly flipping through the channels to find a decent show to watch. Tyler just shrugged his shoulders and playfully reached up, grabbing my hand, and pulling the fingers out of my mouth.
Stop that he said. We sat and watched TV, waiting as the time passed slowly by.
Once Leno was over, I grew even more worried. It was getting late and every time I called Shanes phone he never answered. It wasnt like Shane to just take off.. Especially not telling me or Tyler.

At 2:45, I woke up to the sound of the front door clicking shut. I sat up quickly and watched the figure tip toe through the dark room. Little late to be coming home, dont ya think? I asked. Pam nearly jumped off the floor at the sound of my voice.
Hey she spoke quietly, noticing Tyler sleeping on the chair across the room and trying not to wake him. I was out with the girls.
I nodded my head as she walked in the direction of her room. I picked up my cell phone and looked at the screen, no missed calls. I dialed the number that over the past few months I had memorized.
One ring, Two Ring, Hello? the groggy voice answered. I couldnt speak due to the shock that had overcome my body. Uh um. Shane there? I asked, realizing the groggy voice was that of a female. Hes asleep she said quickly before hanging up.
I sat there wide eyed, furious, and hurt. Tyler I said kicking the chair he was laying in. He shifted a little but didnt open his eyes. Dangit Tyler Hmiel you get your ass up I said a little louder, hitting him with the throw pillow from the couch. Tyler opened his eyes and quickly sat up, dazed. What was that for?
I put my hands on my hips before I started to speak. I gave your DIPSHIT brother ONE more chance, and he blew it.
Tyler looked at me confused, What are you talking about. I huffed as I started to explain. That moron, he wouldnt answer his phone earlier but the GIRL he is sleeping with had no problem playing secretary
Tyler was confused; he grabbed his cell off the floor and dialed his brothers number. I paced the room, the anger building up inside me. Who is this? was all Tyler said, I knew it was the female that I spoke to before. No I said who is this? Tyler was getting angry.
He hung up his cell phone and again dialed the number Listen you little hoe, where is Shane?. I could tell the girl was giving Tyler the run around.
He hung up his phone and looked at me sympathetically.
So many emotions were coursing through me, I did the only thing I could do. I walked into my room, grabbing a bag from the closet. I started shoving the spare clothes and stuff that Shane kept at my house into it. I walked across the hall and into my office. I sat down at the desk and pulled a piece of paper out.
Shane,
I gave you 2 chances and you blew them both. I cant say that I regret the time we spent together. Because I didnt. I loved everything about you, well except for the fact that you cant be monogamous. I hope that everything goes well for you. Please, dont call or come by, it isnt fair for me to have to see and hear you when all I want to do is get over you.
Shannon
I placed the letter in an envelope and sealed it shut. I put the envelope in the bag and walked back into the living room, where Tyler was still on the phone.
Im sorry he said. I shook my head Ty you have nothing to be sorry for, its your brother that does. And frankly, I dont want an apology from him. I responded, completely emotionless.
Growing up, watching my parents fight, I learned the easiest way to deal with things was to be strong. At least until you have a few minutes to let all your emotions out.
I handed Tyler the bag, Please tell him that I dont want to see him. It will be for the best if he just stays away. Tyler fully understood, knowing that Shane would be on my door in the morning begging for forgiveness.
I watched Tyler drive away and I closed the door behind me. I sat up the rest of the night going through crying spells, watching re-runs of I love Lucy. |
