| Chapter 7 The 500 "Oh My God" Mandy said standing up. She cupped her hands to her mouth as she waited for Brian to drop the window net. She waited..... her heart slowly beating. Everything around her slowed. All she could do was stare at Brian's banged up race car. Finally, she gasped as she saw the peice of cloth drop and there he was, pulling himself out of the car. Mandy couldn't believe that he had gotten caught up in the big one. She quickly made her way off the pit box and headed for the care center. She wandered through the reporters who were waiting for the many people involved in the wreck to emerge. Mandy flashed her pass and headed inside, she saw Buffy Waltrip and gave her a slight wave. She looked over at the doors which were opening, Brian emerged limping a little. Amanda rushed over to him, "you ok?" she asked giving him a once over. "yeah" he answered putting his arm around her shoulder. Mandy rubbed his back as they walked out of the care center. The media hounds rushed him, "it was just racing" Brian said, he answered a few more questions and parted ways when the media saw Micheal Waltrip coming out. Matt, Brian's assistant, was sitting on a golf cart waiting patiently as he hobbled over to the cart. Manda helped Bri onto the front of the cart and then crawled on the back. Matt flew to the coach area, trying to avoid the people that were wandering around. He pulled up to the coach and Manda hopped off to help Brian. She quickly unlocked the door and let Bri use her as a crutch. She shut the door behind them and Brian collapsed on the couch. "Can I get you anything?" she asked. Brian nodded and mumbled that he wanted a Motrin and a pillow. Mandy obliged and got what he needed. She propped the pillow up behind his head and handed him the water to take the pills with. Mandy flipped on the TV and started watching the end of the race. She could hear the faint snores of Bri, who had fallen asleep quickly. Mandy got up and walked over to the couch where he was. She leaned down and slowly took off his race shoes, doing it with care, trying not to hurt or wake him. She grabbed the throw from the chair and tossed it over him. ********* "Manda?" Brian said softly, still lying on the couch. "Yeah babe?" she asked quickly getting off the chair that she had slept on the night before. "My ankle hurts, kiss it and make it better" he jutted out his bottom lip. Even when they were little Mandy couldn't resist the pouty face. She leaned down and planted a soft kiss on his ankle. Brian smiled at her and pulled her up to his side. She snuggled into the couch with her head resting on his chest. Brian stroked her hair and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. She looked up at him and smiled "you are gorgeous" he said looking into her eyes. Manda blushed at his compliment, Brian loved that she was so humble. She had never been the type to flaunt herself, granted when they would go out to clubs and stuff she looked damn hot. Brian and Manda layed there watching cartoons for a while. Amanda got up when there was a knock on the door. "Hey Jimmie" Mandy said as he walked in. "Hey bud how ya feeling?" he asked Brian who was still sprawled out on the couch. "Hey man nice run" Brian said as Jimmie sat in the chair across from Brian. "Thanks man, I just wished all the Hendricks boys would have finished well. But don't worry, it was your first 500, it'll be better next year" he said trying to comfort his friend. Jimmie left the coach and Manda realized how much they day had really taken out of her. "Baby, im going to go to sleep." she said leaning down to kiss him on the cheek. She walked back into the room and threw on her Pajamas. She layed down and quickly fell asleep. |
