| Chapter 3 Kase Kat said, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him inside quickly. He looked at her, still so confused by everything that was going on. He immediately made his way over to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to his chest. God Kat was all he could manage to say as he lost himself in her. I know Kasey I know Kat comforted him as she squeezed him, reluctantly letting him go. Kat grabbed Kaseys hand and drug him towards the couch. Kat sat down and tucked her feet underneath herself, patting the spot next to her for Kasey to sit. He obliged and sat down sideways, facing her. I cant believe you are here Kat said, a small smirk plastered on her face. Uh, me? I cant believe you are here. I mean I thought you were dead Kasey said, running his hand through his hair. Why are you here? I mean hell Kat I went to your funeral! Kasey said, remembering that day. Kasey I know you were hurt by everything that happened and if I could have told you all of this then I would have. Hell I shouldnt even be telling you now but I trust you and I know that you will always protect me Kat said as she took Kaseys hand in her own. Kasey looked at her and waited for the explanation that he was sure was coming. Kat sat for a minute, remembering the couple of months before she left. Kase i'm so scared she said, slipping on her other shoe. Kasey looked over at her; he knew that she had been through hell since the day everything happened. I know babygirl, it will all be ok. He is going to jail for what he did and you are going to be the one to put him there, he wont hurt anyone ever again Kasey said, trying to calm her. I know, but what he did to that poor girl. Im just more worried about what will happen after the trial. I mean the police can only have protective detail out here for so long, and I know that they wont give up Kase. I just feel like this is something you see in a movie, it just doesnt happen to people like me Kat stood up, checking herself in the mirror. Kasey walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her Babygirl you know I will always be here to protect you he said, backing away. I know Kase, but you are no match for the mob. I mean you have one hell of a right hook but the mob? Come on, they have more resources Kat retorted, trying to lighten the mood. Kasey and Kat walked out into the bright sunlight and headed for his truck. The officer that was sitting in his car across the street started to pull out when Kasey and Kat did. They had been sitting out front of her house since the first death threat came. Kat thought about the day everything had happened, something she did quite often these days. She never understood why god had put her in that position that day, the images of what happened would probably always haunt her.. She took a deep breath and started The day before they staged the accident, there really had been one. A black car had followed me and Momma from the store; it pulled up next to us and ran us off the road. Luckily, we were both ok. The police decided that it would be better if the family went into the witness protection program. That night they shipped us off to Indiana, gave us everything we needed to start a new life. They said they would take care of our identities; I came to find out later that they had taken the car and made it look like we died in the crash. After they told me the only thing I could think of was how bad that must have hurt you. Kat disclosed. Kasey just stared at her, a part of him was so happy that she was alive and that he was sitting there talking to her, but the other part was furious that she left him like that. I just wish you would have told me he said, trying to sort his feelings out in his head. I couldnt Kasey, I wasnt allowed to tell anyone Kat explained, trying to comfort him. She knew Kasey all to well and knew that he was pissed at her. Kasey sat silent for a few minutes. I understand why you didnt call he said, finally reasoning with himself not to be mad at her. They sat there, talking for hours. She already knew what he had been up to, she kept up with him. By the end of the night, he had almost forgotten that they hadnt seen each other in two years. Ok, well I better get to bed and I know that you probably have a busy day at the track tomorrow Kat said, standing up so she could walk Kasey out. That I do, but you bet your damn ass I will be back here tomorrow night he said, pulling her to him. His arms snaked around her waist and he squeezed her tightly. I missed you and I sure as hell am not letting you go again he whispered, nuzzling into her neck. He knew if he didnt leave right then that he would probably start to cry. Kasey backed away and headed for the door. Ill see you tomorrow night, and you better make Chicken Roll-Ups! Kasey said laughing. Kat smiled, she knew that if anyone else found out where she was she would be dead, but she that Kasey would protect her secret. BACK HOME NEXT |
