One pint limit for drivers

The proposal will also outline ways to punish repeat offenders
The government is proposing to cut the drink drive limit to roughly the equivalent of a pint of beer or two glasses of wine.

A consultation paper to be published by the Department for Transport, Environment and the Regions on Monday is expected to contain ideas for tougher laws to deal with persistent drink-driving offenders.

It is expected that the proposals will advocate a new "two-tier" punishment system.

Under the new rules, anyone found over the first limit would receive a fine, whilst violating a second, higher drink level would earn a driving ban.
