In the year 4037 a.a. a massive explosion rocked the capitol building of Demm City, killing all members of the Council of Senators. Anarchy broke out in the streets of Demm City and throughout the rest of the United Provinces. Within days, Perdoxxian forces mobilized in Demm City and quickly assumed the role of "peace keepers."
Prime Minister Quorr of Sabattann offered humanitarian aid to the United Provinces of Demm but was refused; a similar offer from King Kermaddikk IV was also declined. By the end of the year a new Council of Senators with a decidedly pro-CotNM stance was elected by the citizens of Demm.
That year had been the beginning of the downfall of the United Provinces. Over the following years and through the Provinces slowly were absorbed into a gray almalgamation entity under the control of the Perdoxxian military. The lines between Provinces were smeared by the time the military ceased marching through the Demmish streets. The stage was set then for possible reform to begin in the now.
In the year 4102, old maps were "unearthed" from the data banks of the Elliott Computers available to the clever manipulations of various factions. Legion leader Mikkaill Gideonn came into the possession of several maps, the old lines marked clearly. The newest interpretations of the coastlines were included and the changed landscape as well but added in overlays. One could see what used to be and what was.
The task at hand was to discover if any of the old families of the United Provinces, the Provincial Governors, the Nobles, still had living descendants. If they did, were they living in the old places, the familiar zones, or had the moved to the safer regions. Mikkaill's post honeymoon visit to Demm would have been the prime time to discover the living past existing in the present. For three weeks he did his best to locate anyone who remotely knew what the old lines stood for. He began in the West, though the flight had taken longer to get there, in the old Province of Chinn which was one of the few that had it's wits about it and some sense of ... history.
As it happened, a Legion spy planted in the Perdoxxian military had information she needed to get to Mikkaill. Information regarding chemical weapons that the Church had in development and testing stages. She traveled south to Chinn from Southeastern Perdoxx and the City of St. Kamm where her Church Colonel target who was both lover and victim was stationed.
Crowwe and Metcaff, Mikkaill's Shadows were running other errands for the boss man. Mikkaill and his current bodyguard Mennth whom few in the Legion liked very much rode their vory'kks to the rendevous point. Suchak's Ladder, one of several thoroughbred vory'kks, snacked on Demmish phlupp caught on site when they reached their destination and codes were exchanged. Mennth had counterparts scattered throughout the continents of Sabatt. The other Mennth's were often referred to by the continent they patrolled. It was unknown to the average Freemen if the Mennths were part of a set of quads or quints or perhaps some experiment gone awry by the Church and redeemed by the Legion. There were rumors aplenty but few facts. Gideonn never let on if he knew.
When the Ranger Spy named Varenn delivered the information to Mikkaill he and Mennth (Demmish Mennth, not Sabattann Mennth or Kermaddikk Mennth ;D) saw the black eye she revealed. In anger over Mennth's suspicion that her case of info might hurt Mik, Varenn had whipped off her shades and the vibrantly colorful shiner became visible. Mikkaill decided that she should not return to her assignment nor to her abusive Colonel.
Varenn argued that she could return in fact must return in order to avoid suspicion. Mik refused to allow it. He explained, though he was the Boss and need not have done so, that he didn't want her caught up in the questioning of any Nukes loyal to Boyle. She would be found out if that occurred and he didn't want to take that chance. Mennth was given the task of covering up Varenn's disappearance, providing a body and leaving behind plausible evidence that the girl was dead. Mikkaill took her back with him to the house of Rangers Starr and Chenn.
