But the team were pysched up for a big game against CC Strikers and were extremely motivated to win and show Peter our coach that we could play better than we did the week before!
And we did!! We played a fantastic game against CC Strikers - our skills are developing quickly and extremely well! Peter made a few positional changes with Tash up front as striker, Carrie in centre midfield, Elaine as 'stopper' and Nat on the left midfield.
The first ten minutes started slowly and CC Strikers looked dangerous while the team found their positions and warmed up (and ran off those pancakes!). But then the Beanies started to dominate... once the ball got to the front line there was no stopping us!!
We had so many near shots on goal - it was only a matter of time before one got past the goalie (or was on target!). And it did after about 20mins, a good through ball which Leona ran onto it and tapped it past the keeper and into the back of the net!! 1-0 to the Beanies!
Our strong forward play was backed up with solid defending by the backline and midfielders. The girls were playing well as a team with lots of passing and plenty of talk both on the field and from the sideline (thanks Peter!)
Tension arose in the second half when Narrabeen were awarded a penalty for hand ball in the box. Peter instructed Tash to take it and she nervously stepped up to the ball and managed to slot it into the right hand corner just passed the keepers fingers. 2-0 to the Beanies!
As we were ahead, Peter made some various substitutes on the field and Kathy came out of goals. The Beanies lost their shape in their defending third and CC Strikers played strongly. A hand ball in the box and CC Strikers were awarded a penalty! Thats our third penalty for hand ball in the box!! Deary me.. Elaine as goalie made a flying dive to get the ball but the ball just scraped through between her arm and her body for CC Strikers to score.
Beanies regained their composure and continued their great forward play - including some "bend it like beckham' free kicks over CC Strikers wall by Katrina and Tash, non stop persistence and tricky moves from Bea, consistent solid defence from Sharna, Debbie & Georgia, quick moves and strikes from Lee and Wendy, great saves by Elaine and Kathy in goal, and great play from Nat and Vic.
The whole team played so well that coach Peter couldn't decide on one "player of the match" and was torn between three - Bea (right midfield), Sharna (sweeper) & Tash (striker). He later announced that Bea was the winner! Well done to our "little one"!!
