Match: Round 1

Venue/Stadium: Kitchener Park, Mona Vale
Attendence: Approximately 250
Goals Scored: Leona (20 mins, 35 mins), Wendy (70 mins)
Both sides seemed anxious as they congregated on the sideline waiting for the opening match of the 2003 season. For Narrabeen this would be their debut appearance in Division 3. A few of the players from last years team before the match they claimed to be anxious and excited.

Narrabeens highest goal score of the 1999 season Lay it on the line Lainey was, for the first time sporting the purple goalkeeper jersey. She reported,
Although I am nervous, I am ready to take on anything they may throw my way.

Natasha Big Boot Connolly and Katrina Keane Breen assumed the captains role and lead the Beanies onto the field. The beginning the campaign for the 2003 champions trophy.

The whistle blew, and so the game began. Dee why kicked off but the Beanies soon claimed the ball in the midfield. In first 15 minutes both sides felt each other out and hustled for control of the ball. The break came in the 20th minute, a lovely one two with Connolly passing the ball out wide to Bea on the wings, who curled the ball to Breen. Breen then drove the ball over the Dee Why defence to the feet of Leona. The crowd rose to their feet as Leona sprinted down the pitch to slam the ball into the back of the net. It was 1-0 to Narrabeen.
Dee Why did their best, but the Beanies were ready massed in force at the back looking to breakdown the attack. Dee Why managed to catch a glimpse of the goal, the girls made it into the box and saw their chance to equalize but Lainey was well down to keep the swerving right-footed shot out.

But the scare was enough to frighten the Beanies coach, Peter Peter Pumpkin-Eater, and force him to reorganize the team, moving Big Boot Connolly into the stopper role and bring on Blondie (Caroline) in the midfield. The Beanies were not to be broken - a high ball in from Kathy Ding Dong Bell, bounced and fell directly to Leona at the edge of the box and the Lightning Girl marched in and finished well past a hapless Dee Why goalkeeper (35 min).

The Beanies were two-nil up at half time. For the remainder of the match, Dee Why tried desperately to drag themselves back into the match, but there was nothing they could do against the mighty Beanies.  In response the Beanies decided to finish it off once and for all. A long, mazy run through midfield opened up the Dee Why defence yet again and it didnt take long for Narrabeen to deliver the ball across the goal mouth. The Dee Why defence were again caught taking a nap. Wendy was not going to pass up the opportunity and after a short scramble, the ball once again found the back of the net (70 min).

So the Beanies started the season in style with a 3-0 win. Lainey was unforgiving in goals, Sharna swept up what ever came her way. Georgia, Debbie and Marday looked good as the neutralised the danger of attack. The midfield worked wonders with Kathy, Katrina, Tash, Bea, Caroline and Natalie who un-relentlessly chased the ball delivered it to the feet of the fast and fearless Leona and Wendy waiting up front.
