~Where is the closest WC?~
This is a story told to me about a Lovely Lady from Britian who was coming across the big pond on her first ever trip to the USA..Now mind you, she was quite well aware that we citizens of the US have always had a nack of totally destroying the Queens beautiful English Language, and with this in mind she was writing ahead to plan a vacation in Florida.
She wrote to a campground owner and asked for a reservation. She
wanted to make sure that toilets were available, but she could not find what they were called here. After much consideration she came up with "The Water Closet" which she abbreviated W.C.
Finally she wrote: "Do the campers have their own W.C.?" The campground owner tried very hard to figure out the meaning of W.C., but in vain. He thought, most surely, W.C. meant Wayside Chappel and he answered and this is the letter he wrote to the lovely lady from Britain...
Dear Madam,
I regret very much the delay in answering your letter but I now take the pleasure of informing you that we indeed do have a W.C. It is located nine miles north of the campground in a grove of beautiful pine trees surrounded by wonderful scenery and it is open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. It is capable of seating 350 people at one time and there is always a large crowd during the Seasonal Months. Especially on Thursday when there is organ accompaniment. The acoustics are very good, so everyone can hear even the quietest passage.
I admit it is quite a distance away, if you are in the habit of going regularly, but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of people take their lunches along and make a day of it.
They usually arrive early and stay late. The last time my wife and I went was 6 months ago, and it was so crowded that we had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may also interest you to know that my daughter met her husband there.
I would like to say that it pains me very much not to be able to go more regularly, but it surely is no lack of desire on my part; as we grow older, it seems to be more of an effort, particularly, it seems, in winter months.
We are also having a fundraiser to purchase new seats, as the old wooden seats with the holes are very worn and some have complaints of splinters have been voiced.
If you decide to come down to our campground, perhaps I could go with you the first time you go, sit with you and introduce you to all the other folks. Remember, this is a friendly community."
