    Lets Talk About Nails

Always hammer away from the body and strike the nail squarely on the head.

    Important When Using:
Do not use nails for unpainted wood siding or other unfinished exterior wood applications where streaking or staining would be unacceptable.

    WARNING:CONCRETE AND MASONRY NAILS
The driving of any nail into concrete or any other hard medium is potentially hazardous because of the inherent possibility of flying particles. NO Nail should be driven without the use of safety glasses or other equivalent protection for the eyes. Penetration of the nail into concrete or masonry by 3/4" will provide adequate holding power. The use of nails which are longer then necessary needlessly increases the hazard of concrete or nail fracture. Nails should be driven at right angles to the concrete and masonry. Solid, well directed blows provide the best results.

    Coating and Finishes

    Nail is...
BRIGHT-Uncoated steel surfaces. NO resistance to corrosion. Use this nail for all types of INTERIOR construction.

CC/VINYL COATED-These coatings act as a lubricant while the nail is being driven, then binds itself tightly to the nail and wood to improve holding power. Use this nail as a framing nail.

GALVANIZED- Nails are tumbled in molten zinc to help produce a uniform galvanized coating to help resist weathering. Use this nail for EXTERIOR construction applications. These nails may rust over time.

ELECTRO GALVANIZED-Nails are coated with a thin uniform film of zinc by use of electrolysis to give this nail some resistance to corrosion. Use this nail for EXTERIOR applications where rust or corrosion would be a problem.

Common Types of Nails and Applications

Bright & Galvanized Common For general construction, carpentry and framing - most popular and versatile. (Bright Common - Hot Dip GAlv Common - E.G. Common)
Cement Coated (CC) Sinkers Heat designed to sink flush with surface for plywood flooring, sheathing
Finishing Nails Smaller diameter, cupped head allows countersinking below wood surface for later filling to give smooth appearance to finish carpentry and trim
Box Nails Thinner shank then common nail, reduces wood splitting
Casing - Countersunk Head Similar to finishing nail with thicker shank, more angular head. For adding casings around doors, setting flooring, heavy exterior trim and window frames.
Staples Corrosion resistant with sharp point for easy driving
Spikes (8" and 10") - Flat Heads Used to secure landscape timbers, railroad ties and think members used in log home construction
Scaffold (Duplex) Nail Double headed nail driven into wood up to the lower head. The second head remains exposed to allow easy pulling when temporary nailing project is completed.
Pressure Treated Lumber Nail Ring threaded or spiral shank, galvanized, long diamond point. Made from stiff stock higher carbon wire to prevent bending. Also available bright.
Roofing Nails Wide head aids holding and reduces pull through. For asphalt singles, roofing felt or insulation board
Square Cap Nails Square Cap head, bright, smooth shank. USES: Roofiing felt, building paper, sheeting, rigid insulation in farm and commercial buildings
    Plastic Cap Nails roofing
Ring Shank Neo-Nails Neoprene washers provide extra sealing protection. Ring shanks hold fast in roof planks. Galvanized to resist rusting and streaking
Drive Screw Siding - Stiff Stock Extra Sstiff shank for easy driving through hardboard. Hot galvanized to resist weathering
Drywall Screws Designed for quick penetration through drywall into metal studs from 25 ga. through 20 ga.
Blued Plaster Board Nails Heat sterilized to create blue oxide film resistant to corrosion. For attaching lathing material
Ring Shank Drywall For greater holding power with gypsum wallboard
Cement Coated Drywall Nail Cement coated for extra holding power
