Grinspoon

Australia Day!!

Australia Day is here!! It is the 26th of January in London. There seam's to be a real buzz about the place as there is more Aussie's in London than Pom's, Or so it seems!! Grinspoon is playing in London and that is where we are going tonight! We thought we would do the right thing and get tickets so we knew we would be able to get in. But being London the shops were closed on Sunday and we couldn't pre-buy our tickets!

They were playing in Hammersmith so at about 3:30 we were on our way. We had no idea where we were going, like most times we go out! We walked out the station with a dazed look on our faces!! As we walked out someone handed as a bit of paper advertising Grinspoon. What are the chances!!! We asked where they were playing and they pointed us in the right direction! We got there and joined the line. Hoping we were in the right line as there were two!! Turn's out we were and after about half an hour or so of lining up we were on our way in. £15 was the entry fee so it wasn't to bad. As we walked in Neil spotted a lady selling some snacks. Not normal snacks but Aussie ones!!! There were chezzels burger rings , Tim tams , and I think there might have been a few other little things. We got inside and this place is huge!! They must have a few concerts here as there is a big stage. I can't think of a place back home to compare it to. It is just really huge with three bars . It is like one big room with seat around the outside and there was an upstairs but we didn't go up there. As we got in there wasn't alot of people and it was quite empty.

Neil , Wendy and I got a seat and started to drink. There were Aussies everywhere. I had my Aussie jersey on and so did a few other people. There were people there with flags in beach wear and a lot of tattoos on faces of the Australian flag! They had a few support bands playing and the music was ok. The bar had a deal. 6 shots for £6. So in between beers we were having shots. Not the nicest of shots but they did the trick. Seeing as we got there at about 4 and we hadn't eaten. We got a box of chezzels which went down very well and fast. That still didn't fill out bellies!  On the way there we saw a maccas so Neil decided to go out get some food. You aren't aloud out of this place once you came in so Neil was talking to the girls at the door and they said they will put him on the door list to get back in as long as he gets them a cheese burger. Deal done! Wendy and I waited and after a while he came back. So we had our dinner. Once of the support bands played a rock version of "only nineteen" that neil thought was pretty good.

After a while Grinspoon finally came on!!! I have never been in a "mosh pit" before and it was crazy!! The place where there wasn't many people was now packed!!! There were arms and legs going everywhere! People were jumping up and down and I think I wore about 5 pints of drink!!! People were just throw there drinks everywhere. We were soaked and sticky! People were crowd surfing and I think someone even stage dived. At one point Neil lifted me up and another guy thought I wanted to be lifted into the crowd. I was a close call but I didn't get thrown in! The band was really good and everyone was going wild the whole time! I was really glad that we went. I got heaps of photos and while in the crowd a guy saw me taking photos grabbed my camera and took a photo of Neil and I. Only thing is only I was in the photo. People just don't know who to use a digital camera!! We found Wendy not long after they finished as we had lost her in the crowd and it was back to the tube for the trip home. We were all very drunk and still hungry so we got a cheese burger again!! I haven't eaten it in ages and we ate it twice in one night!! On the way home Neil and Wendy were at it again and were bashing each other up. When this happens I walk away but this time a guy saw what was going on and got a bit worried. He went to go over and help Wendy. So I stepped in. Wendy got the hump and got on a different carriage. On the way home she got off of the train somewhere and went to see Luke at work!! She ended up home with Luke a few hours latter!!!

It was a great night and I will go back to that place for sure! I think its called called Ponani, the important thing is I know where it is and that it's really easy to get to. You go to Hammersmith station and it is just down the road on your right. This place rocks and i give it a 8/10. take care , Donna.
