Welcome
to the Burnside
State
Preschool
I am your
teacher. My name is Mr. Graham Mulrooney, the Preschoolers call me Teacher
Graham. I have been teaching Preschool for more than 27 years, in four
schools on the Sunshine Coast and at an indigenous school on Mornington
Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. This is my 16th year at the
Burnside Preschool.
Burnside
State Preschool operates a full day Preschool programme. Preschoolers
attend five full days per fortnight.
Burnside
State Preschool has two Preschool classes operating, the “Green Group” and
the “Gold Group”. Your Preschooler will be in either the “Green Group” or
the “Gold Group”. |

Attendance
At Preschool
Attendance at Preschool is not compulsory, however your child will benefit
most if they attend regularly.
Preschoolers MUST NOT be dropped off at the gate or left by themselves, if
you find you are early please come in and stay with your child in the foyer
until the session starts.
At the
end of the day Preschoolers must be collected from the classroom, they must
not leave until an adult is at Preschool to collect them..
It is
important to be punctual. Preschoolers get anxious if they are late in the
morning or you are late picking them up in the afternoon.
As you
will appreciate, we WILL NOT release a Preschooler to an adult who is not
known to us…. please let us know if anyone other than yourself is going to
collect your child. |

you are unsure of the required exclusion period for any illness, please see

Excursions
During
the year we will go on excursions to different places in the community.
We organize excursions to extend a theme we are developing in the Preschool
programme. An excursion will provide a real experience for your
Preschooler.
Buderim
Forest Park, Chambers Island, North Shore, Forest Glen Deer Sanctuary and
Underwater World are some of the excursions we may be attending this year.
Excursions are part of the educational programme of the Preschool……
all Preschoolers are encouraged to attend.
Travel
to an excursion is usually by private transport and parent supervision is
encouraged on all excursions.
Notes
sent home and notices on the notice board will tell you about excursions.

P
& C
Meetings
This
year, for the first time, the Preschool is joining with the Primary school
to form a P&C. The Burnside Parents and Citizen Group is essential to the
smooth running of the school.
Many
different items of interest are discussed; therefore this forum is an
excellent way to find out what is happening and to actively participate in
and around your child’s school.
These
meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the school
staffroom. Watch for reminders and notices about these meetings. |

What
to wear to Preschool
Everyday
play clothes and shoes the Preschooler can manage themselves are the best
for Preschool.
Messy
activities are a fact of life, be assured that all paint and glues used at
Preschool are non toxic and come out in the wash if you soak them first –
this applies to bodies as well! |
|

|
Hats
|
|
Burnside Preschool,
like the Primary School is a “Sun Safe” school!

Show
And Tell
To help
learn about the natural environment around us, encourage the collection of
leaves, flowers, insects, bones, shells etc. Treasures from home
should be discouraged – jewels, toys etc often get lost or broken when
brought to Preschool. Show and tell can also be the sharing of a
favourite book, photos of a holiday or special occasion etc. |

Preschool
Library
In second
term, Preschoolers will start borrowing books from the Preschool Library.
A library bag is essential to borrow a book and keep it in good condition.
Please
read these books to your child and show them how to handle the book and turn
the pages carefully, talk about the pictures and the story etc.

Parent
Library
The
Preschool has a number of educational and parenting books
available for adults to borrow at any time. |

Spring
Water
We have a
water cooler at Preschool to encourage the children to drink lots of cool,
clean water.
Parents are asked to pay $10 for spring water to enable your Preschooler to
have natural, cool, spring water for the entire year. This will save you
packing drinks in their lunch box.
Please note: the spring water is only available for the Preschool child. |
