This is the fun portion of the site where I get to talk
about what I feed my
crew:-) I am a strong believer in the BARF diet and have
seen firsthand
how much my dogs have benefited from this healthy way
of feeding.
One of my Saints has degenerative joint disease and was
only given
1 1/2 years to live. That was well over two years ago.
The Vet said
there was nothing more she could do for him and told
me to take him
home and keep him comfortable. Beau Bear is my best bud
and there
was no way I could take the Vet's advice. I set out to
find a way to help
this special boy. I decided to put him on Cosequin and
had great results.
Then I started researching various diets. I happened upon
the BARF diet
well over a year ago and am totally amazed at what it's
done for Beau!!
His back legs were always spindly and weak (Beau Bear
came from
a backyard breeder..looong story:-) and now they're wonderful
and
strong and have gained a tremendous amount of muscle
mass. I give
him Cosequin now only when he absolutely needs it. BARF
has
given Beau Bear his life back and he now has a wonderful
quality of life.
All of my dogs have benefitted from this wonderful diet.
Their eyes are
bright and shiny, their coats look magnificent, they
have pearly white
teeth and fresh breath. And the energy they gain on this
diet is amazing!!
Picture 3 huge Saints zooming around the house as well
as one
Shiba Inu trying to stay one step ahead of them...LOL.
Makes for alot of fun and laughter around here:-)
Through this diet I've found that two of my Nards have
allergies to
yeast and dairy products. Their ears are a wonderful
barometer to
let me know whether or not I'm feeding them correctly.
If they get
gunky ears and an ear infection, I've fed them the wrong
thing.
One can get a minimal amount of dairy products and eggs
but
the other can't tolerate it at all.
I'm still toying with the diet somewhat. My dogs diet
mainly consists
of chicken necks, backs, leg quarters, turkey wings,
fresh veggies and
fruit, canned mackeral, canned tuna, cottage cheese,
yogurt with live
cultures, eggs, apple cider vinegar, garlic, Vitamins
C & E, flax seed oil,
sardines and their favorite part of the diet....TRIPE!!!!
LOL. That stuff
smells horrid...like an outhouse on a very hot, very
humid August day, *G*
but my dogs have gone bonkers over it!! From what I've
read it is one
of the most nutritious and complete foods you can feed
your dogs.
I ordered my tripe from Halshan and am extremely pleased
with this
business. I encourage you to check out the BARF webpage
if you'd like to learn more about this terrific diet.
Also, please
feel free to contact me if you have any questions or
concerns.
Happy BARFing!!
