Introduction

This is a tribute to my favourite comic, The Case Files Of Young Kindaichi. The author, with his ever so cleverly-plotted stories, has no problem attracting new readers and keeping the old ones. Hajime Kindaichi is a righteous boy who seeks pride in solving crimes and bringing criminals to justice. There's usually a very touching story behind every foul play in the Kindaichi series. Many criminals in the comic are triggered off by factors that are so painful and intolerable they resort to criminal ways to see that those bad thugs get their just deserts. But when the reasons behind the crimes are revealed, many can't help but sympathize with the pitiful criminals. Whether or not it has ever crossed anyone's mind that maybe they should pardon the criminals we'll never know. Nevertheless, this is where Kindaichi surpasses his peers and many others. His mission in life is to uphold justice and does not believe in taking things in his own hands. All are equal in the face of Law. In many cases, Kindaichi is compelled to expose his friends. Though painful, he never fails to persevere. His happy-go-lucky and compassionate character makes it easy for him to befriend new people. He doesn't mind befriending a criminal either as long as the latter realizes his mistakes. His friendship is usually reciprocated. All Kindaichi readers are welcome to join #kindaichi on IRC Galaxynet.

Hajime Kindaichi the high school student whom the series is named after. As a big time slacker at school and a lazy bum at home, he's always counting on his childhood friend Miyuki his school work for him and provide him with lunch bags. However Hajime is a totally different person when it comes to solving mysteries. As the grandson of a legendary detective, he possesses incredible analytical skills and is said to have an I.Q. of 180. It seems like murder cases follow wherever he goes. He always appear to be a timid and unreliable person to his schoolmates, but really, when it comes to the crucial moment, there's no one more reliable to count on. One characteristic of him that Miyuki appreciates. It is understood that Miyuki and Hajime have feelings for each other. But neither of them is willing to admit to it.

Miyuki Nanase
At first sight, Miyuki seems like Hajime's big sister. She cooks for him, wakes him up in the morning, and basically takes care of him most of the time. She is the only one who truly understands Hajime's unusual talent that doesn't show in his report card. Almost the opposite of Hajime, Miyuki is the model student whom girls respect and guys fall head over heels for. Naturally, no one other than herself understands what she sees in Hajime.

Kenmochi
Hajime calls him "o-chan", which roughly translates to uncle. Kenmochi usually provides comic relief at tense moments. Apparently Akechi is his direct supervisor, he doesn't like him, so he gets all happy whenever Hajime solves a case before Akechi does. Kenmochi is very reliant on Hajime to help him solve his cases. This Akechi a reason to believe that Kenmochi is incompetent.

Fumi Kindaichi
As a member of the Kindaichi family, Fumi also inherits some of that detective blood as demonstrated in a kidnapping case. Like Takago, she did not appear until resent episodes. She seems to be a good-natured nice girl that people enjoy being around with. But in actual fact, Fumi is very capable of mischief which Hajime often has to tolerate. He can't stand her and the fact that she now stays at his house irritates him. But like it or not, it looks like she'll be Hajime's sidekick for a long time.

Kengo Akechi
As a high-level police detective, Akechi first shows up as a rival of Hajime and later turns into one of his most significant allies. Unfortunately, he never gets to show his talent when Hajime's around. Extremely confident of himself, Akechi is always out to challenge Hajime.

Yosuke Isuki
A writer, Isuki is another friend whom Hajime met in a murder case. He makes multiple appearances after the initial case and uses his connections to help Hajime. Isuki is someone Hajime turns to when he needs information, Isuki with his wide range of resources usually doesn't disappoint Hajime. Isuki played a critical role in a case where Hajime himself was framed as the killer.

Reika Hayami
A popular singer, she got to know Hajime through a case in which she was accused of being the killer. She provides Miyuki with competition for her love interest. This makes Miyuki realize she doesn't have all the time in the world.

Ryuta Saki
He's Hajime and Miyuki's friend from high school. His habit of carrying a V8 camera at all times and shoots everything he sees is perfect for a mystery manga supporting character. Saki is often chided by Hajime for being a hindrance. However, ironically, Saki's V8 camera holds the key to plots which Hajime can't see through on several occasions.

Yoichi Takago
Ever since Akechi turned into Hajime's ally, Kindaichi have lacked a real antagonist. Takago was created for this reason, he only appeared in fairly resent volumes of the manga or episodes of the anime. As the son of a legendary magician, he provides the biggest challenge for Hajime yet. A very intelligent criminal, he managed to remain scot-free time after time. Thought Hajime is determined to bring Takago down to justice someday, it is understood that both parties hold a great respect for each other's intelligence.
