"Corporate Narcissism"

That means, take care of your employees first, listen to them, create a healthier work environment directed toward their needs in a high stress job, allow employees some individuality while on a call, hire people who have natural customer service skills and know professional phone etiquette with a sincere concern for customer satisfaction.  Provide more breaks away from the phone; and, do so where it doesn't negatively impact their job performance STATs.  Make the work place fun.  Playing helps prevent burnout and helps to manage work stress.

I think Cingular Wireless and companies like them have forgotten that each employee and each department are interconnected.  If they work in harmony and nurture each other then the company will be healthier.  If they do not and one part of the company is operating in an unhealthy way, then the entire company is off balance.   I am one of those employees who was impacted by the unhealthy call center environment due to unrealistic job requirements.  Fortunately, my spiritual self recognized the warning signs my physical, my emotional, and my mental areas where sending me and I requested a sabbatical to heal and seek professional help.  I just wonder how many others are still trudging along at the same type job, wondering when the calvary will arrive and give them hope for a better day and never realize they have a right to speak their mind to their employer, request positive, healthy changes to the work center environment, and expect the company to show more concern for them as employees.

My goal with this article is to persuade company leaders to understand the internal effect their unhealthy job requirements have on their employees and in turn the effect it has on company morale and production and the effect it has on the company's public image.  It only takes one disgruntled, unsatisfied employee or customer to tell ten other people about their personal experience to start a negative avalanche which can cripple and ruin a business--just think what affect it has on the employee's personal health and life to work in such conditions.  Isn't it time we all agree that we are in this world to work together as a team to accomplish the same end result?  Or, has corporate narcissism become the unhealthy American way of life where the all mighty dollar and industry ranking/title are more important than the employee who serves them?   I believe God gives power and authority and wealth to us and just as easily He can take it away when we give ourselves the pat on the back for a job well done and refuse to thank Him for the benefits.  (Book of Daniel, Chapter 4)
