Louisiana's most famous towns

Saint Francisville

This is a small town in which it is best to reserve a hotel room if you wish to stay downtown- there are few hotels. You might prefer to stay in one of the numerous Bed & Breakfasts. Take a walk around the 146 buildings that are a reminder of bygone years.

Natchez, four hours from New Orleans

If you have ever dreamed of sleeping in a house of the "Gone with the Wind" style, you csan realize this dream in Natchez. Houses of this type are numerous and perfectly preserved. You will admire thirty or so homes scattered around with lawns having beautiful trees, in a homogeneous architectual style but are often very different.
On your return trip you might stop to visit the University at Baton Rouge. It has a magmificent campus the size of a European city (50,000 students) with red brick buildings, luxurous lawns, lakes, a stadium and centries-old oaks.

Saint Martins ville

One of the oldest cities in Louisiana this one symbolizes the deportation of thousands of Acadians. The center of town has a memorial next to a famous oak, a museum, a beautiful church and next door a plantation typical of the old south. The present owner is a descendent of the first owners and will make your visit interesting and humorous. Not far away make a tour of Lake Martin. This is an unforgetable experience to witness the life of the swamps. By taking a boat tour you can go to meet the famous alligators. If you hear "chchchchchchs",
Followed by a bellowing, it's probably because you are approaching the nest of the female. Brrr!!! It will scare you so get away fast because and alligator can run faster than you can.
