A letter from the President

PLAYERS AND COACHES OF NAPE/BLACKHORSE HOCKEY LEAGUE 2008 2009 SEASON

As the League enters its 38th season, we are fortunate that Molson brewery has agreed to continue sponsorship of the League for the 2008-2009 season.

The level of sponsorship for this season remains unchanged and it is my view that the continued commitment to our League by Molsons is, in part, due to the support shown to the brewery over the past 38 years by the League in general, and by the players in particular.

I would remind all players that Molsons contribution to the league is substantial and the League should reciprocate this very generous support. I would encourage each player to bear this in mind each time you purchase beer.

The executive wishes to advise all players that it is League policy that all beer consumed after games be brewed by Molsons. Therefore, be advised that anyone caught drinking any beer other than Molsons products will be suspended for three games for the first offence and risk suspension from the League for any further infraction. For the 2008-2009 season each team will be supplied beer at a cost of $1.00 per beer. The executive will not tolerate players, playing under the influence or opening of any alcoholic beverage in the dressing room, during or prior to a game.

I would remind all players and coaches of the following:

  • All helmets worn must be CSA approved. Players who do not wear a CSA approved helmet with a chin strap fastened, will not be permitted to play. The use of a face shield is optional but encouraged.
  • Players are required to wear the uniform provided for all League games ONLY and not for any other League.
  • Players are requested to properly CLEAN and care for their uniforms.
  • All games, both at Mile One( Mondays 9:00 and 10:00) and Fieldian Gardens (Sundays 8:30 and 9:30) will consist of two twenty-two minute periods of running time, with the last two minutes of the second period being stop time.
  • Since we play running time, minor penalties will be three minutes running time, and major penalties will be seven minutes running time. Where there are coincidental penalties, teams will not play shorthanded. Upon expiration of the penalties, players must remain in the penalty box until a stoppage of play. No player shall be required to serve a penalty for another player or goalie, be it a minor or major. The team will play shorthanded and at the end of the penalty a player from the bench may take his regular spot on his line.
  • Body-checking is not permitted and there is a seven minute running time penalty for each offence. In addition, any player who receives two checking penalties in the same game, will receive an automatic game misconduct plus a one game suspension.
  • Any regular player missing games in our League due to playing in another League may be suspended for one game for the first offence, and suspended for the remainder of the season for any subsequent offences.
  • It is the responsibility of players to ensure that their teams executive member or coach is aware, as soon as possible, prior to a game, if he will not be attending a game. This will ensure that the spares will get every opportunity to play.
  • The cost for each regular player will be $330.00 ( based on a thirty-three game season. Each play-off game costs $10.00 per player. There will be no charge for goalies. Spare players will be charged $12.00 per game.
  • All regular players are also required to take part in any fundraising activities that the executive deem necessary. Spare players may also take part.
  • The method of payment will be $150.00 down with additional payments to be received before the play-offs start. Cheques are the preferred method of payment as they serve as a record of payment in case of any discrepancies.

The executive reserves the right to expel any player, at any time, if his conduct is deemed to be dangerous or reckless to the League. Please remember, This is a Recreational League. We all have to go to work the next day. Let's have fun!

Yours truly,

Chris Leaman

President
