2 pounds lean ground beef (7% fat or
less) 4 ounce can sliced button
mushrooms 6 ounces blue cheese 1 egg 1/2 cup seasoned bread
crumbs 1 teaspoon garlic salt 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon ground
pepper 1/4 cup chopped parsley In a large bowl mix all ingredients
except the mushrooms and cheese. Divide the mixture into twelve equal
balls. Crumble the cheese into a bowl and drain the mushrooms.
Now flatten two of the meat balls into two thin patties. Place a portion of
the cheese and mushrooms onto the center of one patty and cover it with the
second patty. Without forming an air pocket, seal the edges tightly and
reform the entire patty as you would a hamburger.
Pierce in about four spots with a steak knife. Repeat this for the
remaining patties until you have six hamburgers. Chill for about one
hour. Cook on a grill as you would any hamburger adding about 10% to
your usual cooking time and serve with your favorite burger garnishes.
This is an excellent twist to
an old family favorite. Add your own touch by replacing the blue
cheese with your favorite or, replace the beef with ground turkey for those
avoiding red meat.
