"On every unauthoritative exercise of power by the legislature must the people rise in rebellion or their silence be construed into a surrender of that power to them? If so, how many rebellions should we have had already?" Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia Q.XIII, 1782. ME 2:171

A government (state or federal) branch prescribing religious exercises to the citizens living within that sector is against the separation of church and state. Our government assuming authority over a particular religions beliefs is against the separation of church and state; the oppression of Christian rights and faith is against the separation of church and state.
An Amendment needs to be made that reaffirms marriage solely between a man and a woman. We must remember that the intent of the legislator is to always be equal to all. A Civil Union act should be effectively written into this amendment. Our Federal Courts cannot discriminate against anyone. We need to combine The Marriage Amendment, The Religious Liberties Act, and the Civil Union under an imputable, un manipulable, act of law.
The Religious Liberties Act should be placed in action to protect the people by the independent rights of each State. The people in each state should have the right to vote for or against an act by any government or any court that will effect change in civil liberties in that states. The Religious Liberties Act should also protect the original definition of marriage as well as the right to each state to the peoples vote on the Civil Union as well as any act that may in be forced upon it's citizen that violates the peoples liberties or causes oppression of one groups rights to give way for new rights to others.
Civil Union should be passed by the federal government with the sole purpose to give equal treatment by the federal government to those in civil unions recognized by their state. No one person can be recognized on a marriage license and civil union license at the same time. No civil union can be recognized except in a state that by election of the citizens approves its use in that state.
The purpose of a written constitution is entirely defeated if, in interpreting it as a legal document, its provisions are manipulated and worked around so that the document means whatever the manipulators wish.

"Our peculiar security is in the possession of a written Constitution. Let us not make it a blank paper by construction." --Thomas Jefferson to Wilson Nicholas, 1803. ME 10:419

Congress, Judges, as well as the Executive branches of Government should enforce the intent of the legislature at all levels. Please remember that todays history will create tomorrows past; our children will reside their. We the people of the United States of America may not be perfect, but we believe in ourselves, our foundation and each other. We believe in freedom, and the right to all to the freedom to be whom ever they are willed to become. We believe in law, and our Great Constitution. We must remember the trials of our past for the knowledge of our future. But we should never take rights of one to give rights for another.Democracy is no more a party to oppression than it is a party to discrimination. We must find the fine line that builds a firm foundation.

"No government can continue good, but under the control of the people." --Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1819. ME 15:234
