Nightmares by: Megumi-chan Disclaimers: I don't own them! Summary: The beggining of the biggest nightmare of the Slayers group is about to fulfill when Gourry's past comes back to haunt him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nightmares by Megumi-chan As Lina walked into the town, Gourry followed behind. Her face presented a little smirk, and as she walked trough the crowd her eyes glowed, as if she the smallest of secrets. Behind them both, Amelia and Zelgadiss walked tiredly. Amelia looked around and spotting a little bath house smiled. 'Look! There's an inn over there!' She pointed at the small building and stopping the group looked at the inn. 'We could stay there for the night.' 'Not now Amelia,' Lina had turned and had given a few steps forward, she seemed to be looking for something. "Perhaps she's looking for a restaurant." 'Lina, my feet hurt!' Whinned Gourry as Lina walked forward again. 'Don't be such a whinner Gourry! Now let's go!' Zelgadiss frowned. 'And what are we doing here, Lina?' He asked crossing his arms. Gourry looked at him, while sitting on the floor and rubbing his feet. Amelia looked at him and leaned on his shoulder. 'Yeah, where is here anyway?' Lina looked at both of them and smirked again. 'Sore wa himitsu desu!' She laughted and turned to run away. 'This is the Town of Fountains.' Amelia and Gourry both turned to Xellos who appeared from nowhere to stan right next to Zelgadiss. The chimera turned looked at him and disgusted walked next to Amelia. 'I don't really know why Lina had come here, but I can tell you it is because of the magic waters of the fountains in this town.' 'Magic Waters?' Asked Amelia while Gourry stood up, a little too serious. 'Yes, It's believe the waters can improve anyones magic skills. But of course you need to perform an ancient ritual to be able to improve your magic. And I believe Lina doesn't have the spell.' 'She may be thinking in finding it.' Gourry turned from the chimera and walked towards the street. He seemed a bit too serious but when Amelia came closer an touched his arm he smiled. 'Let's find Lina.' He didn't seem to have listen to Xellos at all. Lina had already found one of the fountains of the town, but yet it was protected by a tall metal fence. Lina though of using a levitations spell but guards had passed by. As she watched the water flow in the tall stone fountain she admired its beauty. The fountain sat in a huge stone platform, the fountain was formed by huge river stones that shone with the sun as it came in the middle of the sky. There were a hundred stones forming the lower platform of hte fountain and went up, each time having less and less stones until there was only one stone in the upper platform. Although people said it was rather small, it was the biggest fountain Lina had ever seen. Drops fell from the rocks and Lina wondered when will the water flow to see the most beautiful water spectacle she'd being waiting for. 'It's beautiful, isn't?' Asked someone that passed by. 'Yeah, too bad water doesn't flow in there.' "What?" She asked herself while the people passed by. 'Yeah, being years sinse that happened.' Lina turned to see Zelgadiss and the rest of the group. Gourry was looking away. 'Wow! It's huge!' Some people laughted at Amelia's comment. 'Little lady, this is the smallest fountains of all the ones in this town. The bigger one is in the exact middle of the castle over there.' He pointed at the hills, where a huge castle stood. It seemed lonely surrounded by trees and green vegetation. 'Little people had ever seen it, but they say it's the most beutiful fountain ever built.' 'Why so little people had seen it?' 'The royal family lives there, townfolk are not allowed to go inside the castle.' Gourry frowned, looking at Lina. 'And the water in this fountain stopped flowing?' 'Yes, after the rebelion the water just stopped flowing. According to the experts of the castle the underground flows of water had dried, but the magician of the castle told the people that the loneliness of the Queen had stopped all water flow. Her power over the elements it's so big that when she felt lonely the water stopped, not to meet the ones of other rivers. So it could feel as lonely as she was.' 'That's so sad!' Screamed Amelia crying in Zelgadiss shoulder. Lina, Xellos and Zelgadiss sweatdropped while Gourry looked puzzled. The man smiled stupidly. Zelgadiss patted Amelia in the back and sighned. 'Now, now, let's go to the inn now, Lina.' 'Yeah, let's go. I'm sure this fountain won't move.' 'Let's go eat.' Xellos kept his smile and turned to the man. 'Thank you, sir!' He said while the man walked away. While Zelgadiss drank a cup of coffee Amelia, Lina and gourry stuffed their faces with the food the inn offered on it's restaurant. Complaining about wanting to return to see the fountain Lina, eat half a chicken. Gourry ignored her and eated his own chicken complete. Xellos ate a piece of pie smiling while drinking his favorite coffee. Annoyed Zelgadiss murmured something about "if looks could kill, he'll be decomposing", and stood up. 'I'm off to take a bath.' And he began to walk away. Hurring with the last of his meal Gourry stood up. 'Wait for me!' Running he catched up with Zell and smiled at him, dissapearing in the corner. Drinking the last of her juice Amelia looked at Lina. 'We should take a bath too, Miss Lina.' But Lina was worried about desert. Xellos smiled as the waitress put at least 15 dishes of desert over the table. Smiling back at Xellos she winked. Surprised Xellos humped and returned to the table, only to find 7 of the dishes empty. Saving another piece of pie for himself he began to eat it. Amelia was, too, able to save a piece of cake and tasting it decided to take a little break for desert. In the bath, Gourry washed his hair while Zell sat over a rock to clean his rock skin. "This is a weir town." He though while Gourry took the shamppo off his hair, letting the long strands of yellow hair fall down his back. Looking around Gourry saw the spring surrounded by rock and beautiful yet strange vegetation. Near the fountain a fountain like waterfall stood, drops falling from its rocks. No water flowed on it. 'Hey, Zel?' 'Yeah?' 'What do you think of the curse in this place?' 'What curse?' 'You know, the water won't flow because the Queen won't be happy.' 'It's not a curse it's a water...Why you asked as if it was a curse?' 'Well ain't that it?' 'What?' Laughter from the other side of the bathing room, that area forbidden to them by the tall wodden wall covered at the top with trees, Lina and Amelia played innocently with the water. Gourry dropped his conversation, returning to his bath. Zell ignored the laughts and turned again to the blonde swordsman. He was finishing his bath, washing away the soap. Standing over he dried himself and stood from the water walking outside. Zell watched him move quickly, as if in a hurry. Walking out and into the hallway, Gourry breathed hard. His eyes scanned the area and he caressed his forehead. "That was a close one. Be more careful Gabriev, they could discover you." Walking to his room, Gourry meet with Xellos. 'How are you feeling Gourry?' 'Oh, hi Xellos!' Dissapearing into the closet, Gourry put his pijama on. Appearing again Gourry noticed Xellos had taken his bathing stuff on his hands. 'I think I'll just go to sleep now.' 'Sure, but be sure not to think of the past, Gourry-san, or you'll have nightmares.' Watching him go, Gourry looked at the window. Lost in thoughts. "He knows. But why do I worry. He'd always known." As the clock ticked towards the twelve, Zelgadiss and Xellos sleeped peacefully. Gourry had dissapeared from his bed. His sheets were untangled, most of them in the floor. Outside the street was lightened by the silvers rays of the moon. It glowed silver in the dark sky of the small town of fountains. Standing in themiddle of the empty street, Gourry stared at the castle in the distance. Her voice was calling for him, inviting him to return to her. His eyes looked at the street, lowering his face and closing them he heard her soft voice calling for him again. 'Gourry...' Said a soft whisper. 'Gourry....my dearest Gourry...' There was no one around, yet her voice called again and again for him, driving him insane. Turning to the other side of the street Gourry ran towards the inn they were staying in. It seemed so far away, so distant, like the castle in the mountains. Unnable to sleep Gourry sat outside the inn, thinking. Should he? Should he return to that past he'd being hiding from himself? Should he...return to her? Shaking his head Gourry entered on the room, hoping they leave soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what do you think?
