Saturday 7th July 2001 2nd XI Vs Backward Countesthorpe "A Local Club for Local People"
"IN THE EYE OF THE STORM"
![]() |
An up-for-it Narborough XI visited the traditional home of quick wins and early pints - Countesthorpe. On a very wet wicket we were stuck in against a paceless attack (that included a further 'thinning on top' William Haugue) that gleamed ample assistance from the conditions. Bush &Tony set a stoice stall out to accumulate without loss but soon enough Tony had succummed to the conditions. S Hall then set about the paceless bowling while Bush continued to look settled steadily accumulating runs.
Then the Voodoo camera claimed the wicket of S Hall above (bowled by an inswinging yorker) while local spectators were bumused by the 'Magical Box of Light'. Mr Fine Wines again looked in commanding form shortly before commanding a seat next to the scorer. N Young approached a duel spin attack with Gusto (below)
......................But then top edged a full toss (See below)
Action as allways with Mr Jackson (Mighty Swing & Caught on the mis-que), J Pochin continues to play textbook with confidence shortly before being run out by the Vicar. More Shananigans with the Partnerships of : Hall/Bray - Some fireworks + 1st dropped catch(Hall) but eventually losing the Brayster Hall/Hill - Enormous skied dropped catch(Hall) some runs before Hills stump fell Hall/Childs - threatened much yet Hall Fell to fulltosspiespinner 1st ball of 40th over. Narborough closing at 190 - fully respectable but anoyingly close to extra batting points
D Hill & Team 'unhappy' with decision
Early on the Narbourough Innings an obvious caught behind appear following the largest nick behind this season was refused by the 'home' umpire (actually a countesthorpes 1st team player rained off). The infuriated D Hill & team then set out their stall - 110% effort to ensure these bunch of C@%s did not get the better of us. A faultless performance with the ball from Mr Hill along with assistance from S Hall with timely wickets and despite 7 dropped catches of varying difficulties the home side were pinned to 170-9 with two overs to go. To the credit of the last set of youngers holding the innings together the win alluded Narborough but big winning draw points could prove crucial as many other matches should have been rained off. Special mention to the bizarre rain ritual local shamanic gathering that permiated our fielding and probably kept the rain off as long as it did.
