Dear Member
Roger finally managed to raise two teams for Saturday - well done and well done to the juniors from the Under 13 squad who stepped in to help the second team, namely, OLIVER BENNETT and ADAM BIRCHENALL. Oliver batted at No 6 and scored 5 and Adam batted and No 8 and was 6 not out. They both also performed very well in the field. Well done boys. Of course, the old boys didn’t too bad either (see below)!!!!!!
Bob Childs (as some of you may know) has decided it is time to retire from the game and, just to let everyone know his reasoning behind it, enclosed is a letter to let you all know what is happening.
Anyway, after all that, here’s the scores:
1st XI
Bardon Hill 148 for 9 (40 overs)
L Wolloff 16 overs, 2 maidens, 53 runs, 4 wickets
G Wenlock 4 stumpings
Narborough 106 for 4 (30 overs)
N Whitmore 40 not out
R Cooper 36 not out
2nd XI
Narborough 124 for 7
S Young 40
Bardon Hill 128 for 3
Under 13 XI
Narborough 99 for 3
Dunton Bassett 90 for 6

Linda and Yvonne Wenlock
It will be helpful to me to share with all members
the reason behind my sudden retirement from the game.
In April I was diagnosed with an hereditary disease
called MYOTUBULAR MYOPATHY. It is a
very rate condition which has some links to muscular dystrophy. My brother was diagnosed slightly earlier
and, being three years older, it would seem likely that a steady loss of muscle
tone will also happen to me. In trying
to bowl this season I have lost even the momentum I had last year!
I shall continue to help the seconds this year if we
are desperately short and, anyway, will be coming to watch and support when I
can. I would, with the Committee’s
support, like to hold a special charity match sometime this season or in
2003. Maybe we could raise funds for
both youth cricket and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my cricket at Narborough and
can reflect upon many happy memories. I
would like to pay a particular tribute to all those people, male and
female, who have given up their time to make the Club what it is. I wish everyone a happy and successful
season and look forward to seeing you inside or outside the boundary.
Thanks once more.
Bob Childs
